I don't hate anyone.
I hate people's actions. I fear and/or disagree with their belief systems. I abhor their intolerance, their racism. I feel angry when someone makes no attempt to understand or sympathize. I feel sad for those who don't understand the concept of compassion.

But, I don't hate Republicans who are anti-choice or Wall Street bigwigs who get huge bonuses. I don't hate anyone, or at least that's my goal and that's what I teach my children.

I feel weighed down by the "I hate" messages on DU. Hate only hurts you, not the hated.

If anyone is the nemesis of Spider-Man, it's Norman Osborn.

43. Which is a shame, because Norm was a really smart guy and then
the lab thing just scrambled fate big time.

And poor Harry believed he had to avenge his father's death.

5. That's my point. You can hate the thing (ideology, whatever)
But I don't hate people who are capitalists. I'm one, trying to build a business to benefit rural Nepali villagers (remember that fiasco on DU?)

3. Oh, I surely can hate fictional characters.
And I don't mean to sound as if I take everything so seriously. But something like four new posts in a row were about hating someone who didn't agree with the poster. It makes me weary.

4. Yes. Also, I hate
'Roger' in LORD OF THE FLIES.

Roger is bad news. He's a murderous monstrous malcontent. He's a nihilist. He's sadistic.

But if Roger was real I'd try very hard to see inside and hate his actions, his intentions, but not HIM.

Oh, I hate some of the dingbat characters on TV.

29. Oh yeah! That's played at every dance party we have.
Throwing out that line is a sure conversation starter. I went to the Bay Area a couple months ago for a conference and forgot to bring my cell phone. Each time I needed to call people I'd approach them and ask to borrow their phone because I left mine at home in Kathmandu. What a hoot!

30. I don't hate anyone either. Other people hate me, even here. And for some of them hating me...
seems to make them happy. So I suppose I am providing a service. I do think so many use the word 'hate' so often and in such ill-advised ways; that whatever power the word may have held has been flushed out of it i.e. I hate that fucking thing, I hate you you jerk, I hate *this* fucking thing, I hate my boss, I hate this coffee, I hate your hair, I hate your shoes, etc, I mean really...

Doesn't anyone simply 'loathe' anymore :(:)

33. Good luck with your OP. There's lots of haters here and they are proud of it.
Yes, hate does hurt the one who hates and not the hated. Too bad so many here do not understand that simple concept.

Here's an example of those who had every right to hate, but chose not to, even choosing forgiveness:

35. Thanks.
People can choose to hate if they want. I choose not to, if I can help it. I can't always stop myself but then I can usually let go of it over time. Being all filled up with hate is just miserable.

Someone once told me that when you hate someone you're giving them free rent in your mind. I keep that with me.

36. Fear is the base of hatred
When fear is within a person, then hatred exists. A supply of love is needed for that person and people in the situation and culture. Love and spiritual life feed us to be more present. I see a lot of people express what they say as a usual thing instead of their true expression, which they find easier to access with the strength of a good spiritual life.

Live!!

41. I try hard to not hate people, but it's very difficult not to.
People who think only of themselves, people who are hypocrites, people who allow others to suffer so they can personally prosper.

People who kill others for sport. People who kill animals for sport. People who abuse animals.

People who run for office promising something, knowing full well they will never be able to deliver it. But they take the votes they get with their lies anyway, and we're supposed to forgive them for lying to us and continue to support them.

It's hard to not hate people. In fact, I dare say it takes more effort to not hate than it does to hate.
