Miles O'Brien's revenge!
Guess who is the main man reporting on CNN from the Houston Space Center...you guessed it, good old Miles. He is now CNN's "Space Correspondent". I'll bet he put a relative up to this!

9. Yes indeed he has.

He loves that stuff (so do I).

I remember him reporting on the Mars Rovers landings and all about that.

2. Well, who's more qualified than...
...the chief engineer of Deep Space 9?

4. Okay, I'll admit it, I was thinking the same thing. I think of him as a TNGer.
I couldn't stand DS9...

11. Nor could I, but I thought...
..."chief engineer" sounded better than "transporter chief" (which is, after all, the 24th Century equivalent of "burger flipper").

12. I loved it, actually. Really enjoyed that show, and loved Miles - just not
his wife, Keiko, so much. I've been a loyal Trek fan since the beginning and I love 'em all. Except I must admit, I'm still trying to get into "Enterprise." Somehow that one still has yet to start growing on me. But DS9 is one of my faves.

15. DS9 was about the only one I didn't really enjoy.

They seemed to flounder about for the first few years and then started all the soap-opera-y love triangles and baby plotlines. Some of the Founder War stories were really good, so I got into the show a bit more when that started taking over and gave the thing some narrative drive. Leaving Ben Sisko "out there" among the Prophets at the end of everything was a bit cheap, though. I suppose they wanted the option to make a DS9 movie, but I can't see that happening now.

Enterprise was a surprise for me. I expected to hate it, but ended up really enjoying it. They handled the retcon parts as well as could be expected, and it was fun to see the evolution of transporter, phaser, photon torpedo and other technologies, together with the development of Human/Vulcan relations. I liked the "alternative timeline" episodes as well (Zephram Cochran unloading on the smug Vulcans with a shotgun was all too plausible, given our violent and greedy nature.)

16. THANK YOU for saying DS9...
turned into a dreary soap opera.

I watch Trek to get away from political maneuvering and soap operas. I worked on Capitol Hill when it was on.

I'm not a true Trekker but I enjoyed all of them in some way, except for DS9, which I and my True Trekker siblings all couldn't stand.

17. We're just starting to get into those episodes, now that they're out
on DVD. Unfortunately, it's usually late by the time we can watch 'em, and I often wind up falling asleep.

I'm one of those trekkers who would have preferred the next series to be centered around Star Fleet Academy, myself. I preferred the timeline where it was or even forward a little, rather than going backwards in time so much. I mean, we're all used to Warp 9.9, 'eh? And, I'm sorry, but I was just REALLY put off by the EXCRUCIATINGLY lame Diane Warren theme song. Just LAME!!! Jay Chattaway's closing theme was far more appropriate, I thought.

Good episode I actually did NOT sleep all the way through was the one where the two guys were stranded in this pod, thinking the Enterprise had been destroyed, and they wind up arguing and then getting drunk together while they start freezing (not quite) to death. Interesting character work there.

Basically, though, it's part of the legend, so it sort of gets grandfathered in anyway, no matter what.

3. Glad to see him back.
They put him in a crappy position in the morning, where everyone acts perky and they run fluff stories all morning. Plus Soledad did not help him either.

He is actually a licensed pilot and is very knowledgeable about aeronautics.

10. What happened to Space Cadet Soledad, anyway? I never
liked watching her but Miles seemed OK. The red-head (Heidi?) is just awful, as she is so ohviously pro-B*. Yesterday she was incensed that Republicans were tough on Gonzo. I will never watch her again, but what happened to Soledad?
