Weighing in at 10# 15 oz., we have a new Democrat as of
7:20 a.m. today. Not so little guy joins our family on planet Earth but is still nameless. Mom and dad are still disagreeing. He's in NICU right now for observation because he has low blood sugar and he was on oxygen for a little while. They don't seem too concerned but want to get a little milk in him first. This is our 4th grandchild. We're thrilled to have him, even if we end up calling him the Kid with No Name.

Mom is doing well, and we'll get to go see them in a couple of weeks.

6. Congrats!!
I just became a great auntie this week for the first time and my niece is a product of a born again fundie house but I'm glad to announce she's a liberal and I'm sure her little one will be too. At least if great-auntie and great-grandma have any say in the matter.

11. Great news for you - what a big guy.
We can always use another Dem in the anti-corruption, open government wing of the party - and he will be if his grandma has anything to do with it. heheh.

Hearty congrats, grandma.

14. Congratulations
And I have a suggestion for the name, two last names: Douglas Marshall

Douglas after Stephen Douglas who debated Lincoln and ended up supporting his efforts in the Civil War, but lost his party's nomination.

Marshall after Thurgood Marshall, Supreme Court Justice.

There are two good Democrats for ya!

24. Wow! What a big one! I had a 10-4 baby boy. Not easy on the
mom either way he's born. I'm sure he'll emerge from the NICU healthy as anything in a day or two. Congratulations to Mommy and Daddy, and the proud grandparents!

28. Was he born Early?
Edited on Fri Apr-20-07 04:03 PM by notadmblnd
I just like the name Early for some reason, so if he was born early the name would at least be appropriate, what do you think?

on edit: Duh!.. after thinking about it, a 10# baby really doesn't signal early to me.

30. Your daughter/dil had gestational diabetes, didn't she?
That's the cause of the big baby with low blood sugar. But, he'll be just fine. I'm on insulin right now because I had a 10 pound 2 ounce baby boy eight years ago (no gestational diabetes, then, just the pre-cursor) and diabetes II runs in my family. They don't want my little girl to get so big and have those problems.

If your daughter/dil wasn't diagnosed with it, she needs to ask why. Those are CLASSIC symptoms of GD in the Mommy - and it will get worse with any subsequent child.

But, as I said - he'll be fine and congrats!!
