Can a golf club break a car window?

Did that golf club mess with my Tiger?

No one on my television is saying it this morning but the blogs sure
are ~

10. That's what I was thinking too ~ seems strange to me.

I'm trying to picture Ms. goclark hearing a crash and then running in the house to get a golf club to try to rescue my Ex.

Did she call 911 and then decide to pick the heaviest club and be Superwoman?

Maybe her set of car keys were upstairs and the Clubs were right by the door?

I still don't get it.

Combine sleep deprivation with feeling basically like sh*t (which I did for months after my kids were born) and then to find out that there are rumors about your husband having an affair with another attractive blonde? Someone posted an article yesterday about a woman ripping the testicles off of her cheating boyfriend...Tiger should count his blessings!

31. The glass isn't any heavier-duty than any other car window
I've hauled quite a few car windows, and talked to people who make them. The only difference between the windows in your Prius, Tiger's Escalade and my semi is their shape; they're all made the same way.

9. I bet she lacerated HIM with the club before he drove off
To me there are things not making sense. I wonder if she injured him at the home. He gets in the SUV to drive himself for medical attention. He passes out leaving the home and wrecks the Escalade. She covers the situation by claiming she freed him with the club. Funny how it is his 'favorite' club. He probably has 5-6 new sets yearly.

18. That actually happened to me.
Although, the back window was already broken from the crash.

The car doors were crumpled shut and the paramedics, at first, attempted to get me out through the back window. Someone finally brought the Jaws of Life and opened the door, but, had that not been available, they would have taken me through the back window.

I found it plausible.

Mrs. Tiger isn't a tiny woman (she's not heavy - just tall) and Tiger isn't a ginormous man.

80. If we go above 10 mph, our MINI's doors autolock.
My doors are usually locked before I leave our driveway, which I'm sure isn't as long as Tiger's. She could have bashed in the driver side window, but that risks injuring him further. Bashing in the passenger window may be useless if the unlock control is on the center console. Back window gives you good access to climb in, unlock the front doors and pull him out.

7. Mythbuster results on car glass:
http://mythbustersresults.com/episode72

You can open a window in a submerged car by attempting to break the window using a window-breaking hammer.
CONFIRMED
The device is designed with a pointed tip designed to shatter tempered glass. The hammer breaks the window on the first try.

You can open a window in a submerged car by attempting to break the window using a spring-loaded center punch.
CONFIRMED
The point of the punch can work like the tip of the hammer, and punches are sold for the purpose of breaking window glass. The punch breaks the window on the first try.

So why not a club, which is much longer, allowing much more force to be brought to bear, since a center punch or a hammer will do?

36. The point of both the center punch and the window-breaking hammer
Edited on Sat Nov-28-09 11:35 AM by Ms. Toad
is that they have a small pointed tip. As far as I know, golf clubs do not.

That doesn't mean that you can't break the window with a golf club (I don't specifically know one way or the other) - but this particular article is mostly irrelevant to proving it.

Edited to add: In case you haven't seen one, here is the "hammer" they are referencing:

61. My mother got one for each of her kids (and grandkids
as they got their drivers' licenses).

She was in an accident when the airbag went off and the police wouldn't let her open the door. She wasn't hurt, but she couldn't roll down the electronic windows, and the gases were making her sick. She wanted to make sure everyone she was connected to had the means to get air circulating. (The handle also has a razor embedded in it to slice the seatbelt).

Otherwise I wouldn't have a clue.

A couple ounces of steel traveling about 60 mph will easily break a car window.

76. It may well - but the is not what the mythbusters discussed.
The two examples discussed were things with a point that concentrate the force created by the momentum of a relatively heavy object swinging toward the window in a very small focal point (a special "hammer" designed for breaking windows with a face no more than 1/4" across, and a center punch with a similar impact surface).

My point was not that a golf club couldn't break a window - but merely that the two examples are irrelevant to proving that point.

30. Yes. Modern car windows are MEANT to shatter more easily than the old versions.
Supposedly safer. They shatter and break into smaller pieces, whereas the old ones would break into big chunks when hit harder. Not sure why smaller pieces are considered safer.

For my last two cars, though, I was unfortunate enough to get hit by a little bitty pebble. Both times it cracked my windshield. Just a little pebble.

52. It would be really interested
to know how she selected it.

I still say it's mighty ironic that the Enquirer broke the "lie" about Tiger having an affair and that evening his wife used the golf club to help him out of the car after he hit the fire hydrant.

Good thing he is not the husband of Ms. goclark,we may have been going some rounds with the golf club inside the house.

I probably would not have waited to let him know how I felt about that article.

74. "Can a golf club break a car window?" --> Easily.
"Did that golf club mess with my Tiger?" --> This question reminds me of the book/movie "Misery."
