Poor Imus
Had he made those comments this week, no one would dedicate so much news time that CBS would be forced to fire him.

Timing is everything.

1. Actually, I think I understand your point. As a commentary on how the new business works
in this country these days, your post makes a damn good point.

2. I doubt it would have ever been reported, the MSM

can only focus on one story at a time. They will talk about the VT shootings until you are ready to pull your hair out and you actually hope for something else to happen to get them off the subject. Has Geraldo made it there yet?

4. One story at a time is exactly right. Even NPR's "All Things
Considered" barely mentioned the Gonzalez hearing today at all - it's still all about Virginia Tech, you see.

6. And this is true for both the regular networks
with their 22 min (or so) news programs, and the 24-hr cable.

One would have thought that 24 hours can give time to cover every thing.

3. He wouldn't have said that this week
He would have recognized the country was in a state of shock and mourning and that it wasn't the time for McGuirk to get together some "n***** jokes."

Or, he would have realized the nation was in the mood for some really edgy fucking psycho freak jokes - and told those instead.

Gads. What an idiotic thread.

5. 9/11 knocked the sick obsession with Gary Condit
and missing Shandra Levy right off the tv forevermore.

Just sayin'.

13. He's Gotta Be Going Through Withdrawls
At one time in my "career", I was fired from a talk radio job...it was like losing a right arm. For years I had prepared...always thinking about the topics I would be doing on the next show...then all of a sudden...poof...it's gone and it's like the world has fallen out. You have all these things to say and no place to say them. Soon, people who used to be your friends cause you were the "radio star" no longer recognize you and then your old business friends and contacts stop returning your calls. It can be a cold, hard reality.

I agree, had Imus said the shit he did this week, while it would have gotten some local notice (I can't imagine someone from Rutgers wouldn't have heard the crack), but it would have been buried under all the other news happening. However, I don't think the crack would have gone without some kind of controversy. He attacked down...slandered people who weren't in the public eye and did so in a very vile way. It wasn't what he said that got him fired, it was the way he handled his so-called "appology".
