Study: Palin news top story for only 2% of public--HuffPo
Edited on Wed Nov-25-09 03:59 PM by Louisiana1976
The media is drastically overplaying former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin's influence on the national political conversation, suggests a new study of the public's news-watching patterns.

The Pew Research Center released a public opinion survey on Wednesday showing that, of the recent news stories people followed most closely, the one-time vice presidential candidate and her book tour have garnered very little sustained interest.

Only two percent of respondents said that news of Palin and her new book, "Going Rogue," was the story they followed "most closely" this past week. Only ten percent said they were following it "very closely." Compare that to the 41 percent who said that the health care reform debate was their top story and 18 percent who said the same about the swine flu epidemic.

1. palin's lemmings are very loud
and noisy and seek out the TV cameras as they have been trained to do by right wing radio. There are literally billions of them and they have us surrounded.

I'd rather she be the lead story every day in the news discussing her views on foreign policy, health care, gay marriage, the economy, etc. The vast majority of really patriotic Americans, IOW the smart ones, will kick he to the curb where she belongs.

7. But Palin's book is easier to cover and more entertaining than the serious issues
and the media is lazy.

In fairness, in 2006, there a blitz of coverage as John and Elizabeth Edwards came out with books in late 2006. Here's one link from the JRE group where I looked to get back up for my memory that this was the case - http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=257x519 Elizabeth, with the more compelling book got a huge amount of coverage. In addition, unlike Palin's, it was pretty much positive.

Yet, if you look at the polls, it did little to help his polling. In her case, it may raise the 70% who have considered her unqualified.

My "best" friend has even recently become a fundie and all of a sudden just LOVES Palin. Oh, and she stopped calling me. (she recently married a right-wing asshold.) I guess I lost yet another friend here in hell. I so want to move :(
