Fox News VP: "The hosts violated one of our general rules, which is know what you are talking about"

http://www.nytimes.com/2007/01/29/us/politics/29media.html?_r=1&oref=slogin

<snip>

And in an interview, John Moody, a senior vice president at Fox News, said its commentators had erred by citing the Clinton-Obama report. “The hosts violated one of our general rules, which is know what you are talking about,” Mr. Moody said. “They reported information from a publication whose accuracy we didn’t know.”

26. Why?
Reporters at Fox are a pack of lying bastards, and they know it. I think it's refreshing that they have such a healthy sense of self-awareness. I think it's good that they recognize their mendacious nature and embrace it

16. They're officially not required to be truthful.
IIRC, there was a case awhile back where two reporters were fired by Fox News for refusing to change their story to suit corporate interests (the story was about bovine growth hormones, I think). They sued for wrongful dismissal, and Fox News won by making the case that the network was not, in fact, obligated to report the truth.

Like most corporations, Fox News' first and only rule of ethics is "Don't get caught."

29. Quite possibly is.
Keeping the talking heads ignorant of a lie, so they can come across with sincere credibility is one thing. However it behooves those feeding them the lies to regurgitate, to know what that lie is so as to keep it alive long enough to fix in the public consciousness and make of it a "truth".

Seriously, if this guy was forced to resign for reporting false news by accident, John Gibson should be strung up by his nuts for doing it on purpose. Of course, nobody's getting fired for doing what they're told, right?

25. Since the other news networks stood their ground
and pointed out their mistake instead of jumping on the Fox "news" bandwagon.

They got way out on their own and realized they didn't have CNN and MSNBC following along to provide cover.

I mean, you have one guy in his stained underwear in his mommy's basement bringing down Dan Rather because he goes through 3000 steps to discredit the only piece of evidence there was that Bush showed up for something, and yet no heads roll on an easily discredited story about Obama (and the idea that it came from Hillary's camp)???

I first learned about the Hillary-Obama thing on this forum, as (another) attempt to discredit Hillary. They cited Insight as though it was credible.

31. Grist for the FR mill?
The Washington Times, which is also owned by the Unification Church, but operates separately from the Web site, quickly disavowed the article. Its national editor sent an e-mail message to staff members under the heading “Insight Strikes Again” telling them to “make sure that no mention of any Insight story” appeared in the paper, and another e-mail message to its Congressional correspondent instructing him to clarify to Mrs. Clinton and Mr. Obama that The Washington Times had nothing to do with the article on the Web site.

Proof that the liberal MSM is again suppressing the truth. ::sarcasm:

32. Crikey. Something for everyone.
And the Fox News rival MSNBC has picked up several of Insight’s other recent anonymous “scoops.” Among them: that Mr. Bush was afraid to fire his adviser Karl Rove because “he knows too much”; that there is a rift between President Bush and Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice over the president’s support for Israel; and that Mr. Bush spent the months before the midterm elections in a bunker-mentality focused on the Iraq war and the elections to the exclusion of all else. Mr. Kuhner has appeared as a guest on both networks.

This little tidbit would appeal to virtually everyone here.

Point one is almost certainly true. Though I doubt KKKarl could actually open his mouth without guaranteeing his own demise and a long stint in a bluestone college (cinderblock hotel).

Point 2 could be true, except I'm not sure Kindasleezy is capable of an independent thought.

Point 3? Well he certainly has a hardon for war, but all the rhetoric at the time suggested they knew that the fix was in, and the worry surfaced when they discovered that the fix wasn't quite large enough.

All in all though, a masterful attempt at gaining some credibility with their largest critics.
