A Health Care story - with a good Ending - even a Moral
Close friends of mine, a "married" couple of men with a solid long term relationship had a medical emergency yesterday, and on my recommendation made an appointment with my brand new doctor.
This doctor is new because I immediately started to get a physical and started a relationship with a doctor after becoming eligible for Medicare a couple of months ago.
(I had dropped my health insurance, in spite of no claims or illness; the cost had become astronomical, and note: Medicare gives a free physical as a welcome in the first six months of membership)

They got an appointment within hours, and the emergency turned out to be serious. The doctor not only made an immediate 2 hours from then date with a surgeon, but he dropped his rate by 40 percent because they were not insured.
He had both of them in the rooms, during all the exams, gave information and treated them as all human beings should be accepted and treated.

Then they got advice: Go and file the upcoming procedure under Medicaid.
You will be rejected (age - or whatever)
Bring the rejection, and we have a provision to treat you for free.

Even though I don't understand all of this, and may get some criticism for inaccuracies about Medicaid/care I think this is a report about humane providing of real health care under our present black cloud of greed and misrepresentations.

It is an example of professionals working under that cloud and doing the best that can be done until we can get to where we need to be. May all of you who are in need, out there, find people who understand what is most important, and who act on it in ways that elevate, don't degrade, and show compassion.

Medicare E
Everybody - all the time - as is worthy of our people and our nation.

1. Doctors have been my heroes
since I lost all hope of health insurance in 1987. They have downcoded, cut their fees, provided drug samples against company policy, and generally bent over backward to keep me going in a system that's hostile to us all, but especially hostile to people who have had the bad luck to get sick.

In addition, since most of my jobs have been in teaching hospitals, I know what they've gone through to get there.

I have gotten breaks from labs and hospitals. I have never gotten a break from a pharmacy. I will never get a break from for profit insurance.

2. Thank you for adding your story. I think those that help us by
fighting the greedy system need to be celebrated when they put us first.
