So the Cadilac Plan Tax is in the new Health Bill?
Sen. Kent Conrad (D-N.D.) told reporters outside a caucus briefing that the bill includes a national public option with an opt-out provision for states, a tax on health insurance plans that exceed $8500 for individuals and $23,000 for families and language on abortion that does not go as far as Bart Stupak's amendment in the House. Conrad seemed supportive of the bill but would not fully commit to voting for it, saying he'd like to see amendments added.

Senate Majority Whip Dick Durbin, meanwhile, told reporters a cloture vote to bring the bill to the floor for debate (and amendments) is expected on Saturday.

Let me know if I'm reading this correct or not. Is this a tax on the Health Insurance companies or the individual who has such a plan?

1. "a tax on health insurance plans that exceed $8500 for individuals and $23,000 for families"
That looks like a penalty for having great insurance to me.

2. And don't get me started on this one:
"language on abortion that does not go as far as Bart Stupak's amendment in the House."

Where exactly does it go?

3. No further than Hyde amendment, so far as I've read.
Private plans in the exchange will, under the Senate bill, be allowed to provide for abortions.

another OP here has details.

This is worrisome.

5. There's a tax on some high end health plans...
Excepting people who have dangerous jobs and/or certain salary ranges. (I.e. the union people with those plans.)

6. That was what I was asking
I have no problem taxing an executive compensation package, I do have a problem for taxing a coal miner or a union guy for sacrificing wage increases over the past 10 years for Health Care.

Thanks for clarifying that for me.

7. and on small businesses whose plans are rated
based on the actual health of the individuals in the plan. Sure hope they took that into account.
