Battles Rage - War Against Christmas

Boycott Gap, Old Navy and Banana Republic this Christmas

November 11, 2009

AFA is calling for a limited two-month boycott of Gap, Old Navy and Banana Republic, the three stores owned by San Francisco-based Gap Inc., over the company’s censorship of the word "Christmas."

The boycott is part of our ongoing campaign to encourage businesses, communities and individuals to put Christ back in Christmas. The boycott runs from November 1 through Christmas Day.

For years, Gap has refused to use the word Christmas in its television commercials, newspaper ads and in-store promotions, despite tens of thousands of consumer requests to recognize Christmas and in spite of repeated requests from AFA to do the same.

Last year, Gap issued this politically-correct statement to Christmas shoppers: "Gap recognizes that many traditions are celebrated throughout this season and we feel it is important to display holiday signage that is inclusive to everyone."

Christmas is special because of Jesus. It's not just a "winter holiday." For millions of Americans the giving and receiving of gifts is in honor of the One who gave Himself. For the Gap to pretend that isn't the foundation of the Christmas season is political correctness at best and religious bigotry at worst.

3. Yes because everyone knows that Jesus was a huge celebrant of the birth of Sol Invectus
and loved to shop.

Coincidentally, the Roman emperor who created the Holiday loved to BBQ himself some Christians.

4. about that bbq of Christians......seems it was a story a few Fish talked
about before they did the bbq on 'non-Christians'. Suspiciously convenient, archaeologists were naively surprised that Roman evidence was not there, as the Christians claimed. Mithras b-day was also on the same Day. http://www.amazon.com/Suns-God-Krishna-Buddha-Unveiled/dp/1931882312

There is no war on Christmas, but there IS a war BY Christians on the rest of the World.

7. When did this become so controversial?
Stores have been saying "Happy Holidays" as long as I can remember, and I'm almost thirty. It's only in recent years that conservatives have started whining so much about it.

11. When Fundies realized that by promoting hate at Christmas, they
could rake in more money than the Salvation Army bell ringer.

Money is the reason for the season.

9. Do they call for a boycott because of sweatshop wages and conditions for those who make the products
sold at those stores? OOHHHHHH ho ho ho ho ho ho ho ho NO! NO, they don't. They call it for "company censorship." Tells me all I need to know.

10. Pick a corp. whose sales are likely to dip. Mount a boycott. When numbers come in, declare victory.
It works every time.

16. Yep. Just like...
...picking a Presidential adviser who is about to step down from an interim position, create a fake controversy over her, and then claim victory because you forced her out of the job. Now we know where Cluster Fox got that tactic. No surprise that they have been pushing this fake "War on Xmas", too.

13. These people annoy the shit out of me.

For the Gap to pretend that isn't the foundation of the Christmas season is political correctness at best and religious bigotry at worst."

Give me a break! And what about those who don't "honor the one who gave himself"? Are they just supposed to deal with it, just because a fucking phrase means THAT much to you? News flash: THERE ARE OTHER HOLIDAYS IN DECEMBER BESIDES CHRISTMAS. You wanna talk about religious bigotry? Religious bigotry is taking your religion, and stuffing down the collective throats of every person in this country. Religious bigotry is crying foul when your religion isn't exalted above all the rest. Religious bigotry is pitching a fit when OTHER HOLIDAYS ARE VIEWED AS EQUAL TO YOURS.

Fuck you self-righteous bastards. Do I celebrate Christmas? Yes. We put up a tree and a little nativity scene because it's a tradition we have. We aren't rally a religious family at all. But even if I was, it would be downright foolish to bitch and moan because a store or a television commercial tries to be inclusive towards others WHO DON'T THINK LIKE YOU.

19. Not to mention the Xtians ripped of ancient holidays to push Jesus.
Solstice, the slanted axis of Planet Earth, is the original and true reason for the season.

14. Why "politically" correct?
Is it not the case that Christmas is widely celebrated without
any religious honoring?

If the stores want to be inclusive, let them be so. They can't
be demanded to recognize a religious holiday.

I am so sick of Christmas being foisted upon me beginning the day after Halloween. Don't you assholes have anything better to do?

18. Exactly. Being inclusive is NOT warring on Christmas.
Now, if those same stores refused to carry any Christmas items and refused to serve customers who were wearing holly-wreath lapel pins there MIGHT be a valid complaint - but even then, they have the right to do so.

I have yet to see a store that has its employees say 'Happy Holidays' refuse to sell christmas gifts.

17. Actually, Christmas is special TO CHRISTIANS because of Jesus.
It's just a day off work to the 80% of Americans who are of other faiths or no faith. 20%. That's one out of five. That is a BIG demographic that the christians want everyone to ignore. (And need I mention that not even all christians celebrate christmas?)
