Thompson Considering Challenge to Feingold

Former Wisconsin Gov. Tommy Thompson (R) is still considering a possible challenge to Sen. Russ Feingold (D-WI), according to the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel.

Said Thompson: "I haven't said no. I'm looking at it. I'm looking at governor, I'm looking at senator and I'm looking at mayor of Elroy. One of the three."

Thompson said he will make a decision about whether to get into the race next year. A poll last month showed Thompson could beat Feingold.

1. The guy who invited the terrorists to poison our food supply?
The guy who came in second in the "guys named Thompson running for President" poll?
I would hope my fellow midwesterners were smarter than that.

2. Great! That's all we need here. It is a sad possibility that he could win.
Thompson is about the only person who has a chance of beating Feingold here in WI.

11. He could be a serious threat.
I would agree he would have the best shot. I think this should be taken very seriously.

If memory serves me right he was much liked in Wisconsin. Many saw him as a moderate. I honestly don't know his track record. Perception is reality though. It's along ways until election time though and many things can happen. I hope he does not run for the Senate.

Thompson Could Beat Feingold

A new Wisconsin Policy Research Institute poll shows former Gov. Tommy Thompson (R) would beat Sen. Russ Feingold (D-WI) in next year's Senate race, 43% to 39%.

However, Thompson has not indicated any interest in challenging Feingold. The senator's sole announced challenger is David Westlake (R), a small businessman.

6. Thompson has faded from the public consciousness.
Nobody cares about ex-governors, just ask Vilsak.

Feingold will remain Senator and the next Governor will be Democrat Tom Barrett, current mayor of Milwaukee.

Help, I can't find a regular job! Make me a governor, a senator, a representative, a mayor even. What do you expect a career politician to do? Help!
