Boycott Connecticut
Joe Lieberman has threatened to filibuster the Health Care bill. The answer, punish the entire state. I propose we Boycott Connecticut.

Yes, it is a small state, but there are business there and since their Senator has chosen to act contrary to the will of the American people, Connecticut will pay the price.

For those of you taking a vacation or even a road trip, mark Connecticut off your itinerary.

Connecticut has newspapers, towns, cities, and special interest groups. Research them, write them, let them know that they can no longer count on business from outside the state.

This is long past due. The state where G. W. Bush was born and Joe Lieberman pretends to serve should be shown the door.

And for those Connecticuters at DU who might think this thread is bashing Connecticut...join the Boycott, do all your shopping in another state. As one of your states favorites sons said, you are either with us or against us.

9. Hey, I live in CT and worked to defeat Joe in 06. Give us some credit here.
I don't know one liberal here in CT that likes Joe. And I'll bet a lot more folks who wish they had never voted for him in 06.

Joe is NEVER HERE! We never see him except on TV. He's so in love with the media and himself he couldn't care less about CT. We're as screwed here in CT as others across the country.

Please remember that we have the strongest state marriage equality law in the U.S., a law that was established by our state Supreme Court and then overwhelmingly approved by the electorate by a ballot initiative. We're the home of the historic and durable Griswold v. CT. Roe is enshrined legislatively in this state. We have kept abortion accessible, through a decision by a heroic judge, to Medicaid recipients since the Hyde amendment was passed. My own city of New Haven is a "sanctuary city," wherein we have issued ID cards to any resident so they can open bank accounts (which keeps all residents safer by reducing home break-ins of people who had to keep their earnings in cash).

Joe is dead to us in CT. You won't be hurting Joe; he would laugh in your face. He lives elsewhere and spends his money whenever possible elsewhere. All you will be doing is hurting some very good people

10. so the people of Connecticut have to suffer even more?
I read an article in the NYT about how the state's tourism budget has been basically eliminated, temporarily, so jobs dependent on tourism are already at risk--even more than they already were in this economy. And while a plurality of people in Connecticut are responsible for Lieberman's being in the Senate, it seems a bit harsh to punish everybody there for Lieberman's assholery.

It's a little different from, say, the Confederate flag debate. A majority of a state's politicians--and therefore its voters--have to be on the dark side in that situation, and then it makes more sense to boycott.

It might be a better idea to boycott the corporations who've made big donations to Lieberman.

Many of us did not vote for Lieberman including myself. As for shopping in another state -WTF! Just think of all the wasted gas alone!

Thanks for choosing to punish us liberals. Almost as smart as bombing an Arab city to ashes to kill 10 terrorists!

So if you are enroute to or from, say Boston, you can get your fuel or meals on either side.

matter. Trust me on that one. And somehow, at 34 years old, I am responsible for Joe Lieberman and George W. being born here and then Loserman being voted in to the Senate in the 80's when I was a mere child. I am ashamed that the conservatives come to a more liberal state to live (including Beck) but it is hypocrisy on their part when they call liberals elite then live in a wealthy state.

28. But really it's so much fun
to sit and think of all the possible monkey wrenches that could be thrown into the boycott efforts to screw them up.

Products of CT:

Livestock

Connecticut's most valuable livestock products are dairy products (milk) and chicken eggs.

Aquaculture (hard clams and oysters), cattle and calves, and hogs are other state livestock products.
Crops

Greenhouse and nursery products (ornamental shrubs, flowers, young plants) are Connecticut's leading source of agricultural income.

Tobacco and hay are the state's largest crops.

Manufacturing

Manufacturers add value to raw products by creating manufactured items. For example, cotton cloth becomes more valuable than a boll of cotton through manufacturing processes.

Production of transportation equipment, most of it for military use (aircraft parts, helicopters, submarines), is Connecticut's most important manufacturing activity.

Ranking second is the manufacture of machinery (bearings, computers, machine tools, printing machinery) followed by fabricated metal products (cutlery, hardware, nuts, bolts, rivets, washers, etc).
Mining

Crushed stone is Connecticut's leading mined product followed by sand and gravel.
Services

Finance, insurance and real estate are the largest industries in Connecticut. Hartford is an insurance center.

Second are the community, business and personal service industries (as private health care, engineering and law firms, and computer and data processing services, tourism).

Wholesale sale of fuels, lumber and farm products and retail (automobile dealerships, department stores, food stores, and restaurants) rank third.

==========================

People who are REALLY serious about boycotting CT (and other states as well) should know what's really involved. Otherwise, it's all a lot of hot air out their asses.

I think I may have ruined a lot of Christmases by pointing out to the "Let's boycott Maine" crowd that their Christmas trees might come from Maine.

I guess they gave up that idea...the thread got buried in only a few days.
