It will be a republican clean sweep in the 2010 mid-terms
It will be a republican clean sweep in the 2010 mid-terms I am sad to say.

And for anyone who wonders why I still suspected this country was going in to another economic depression - I suspected something like this would happen.

This bill essentially creates debtors prisons. Can't afford to pay? Off to jail you go. People forget just how many millions of middle and lower class americans are already in massive debt living pay check to pay check. This bill does nothing to relieve already crazy high medical costs.

The back lash will be a republican clean sweep in 2010. They will take back the congress, and from that point will resume screwing the economy the same way they did before.

26. the number 23
I'd toss the crystal ball and consult your i-ching. The number 23 has been in the news lately, as in 23rd district of NY. That's the i-ching hexagram "Po", disintegration/break apart (a whole movie was made on this number). According to my hexagrams, the Repug party is now literally breaking apart and will be doing so in the near future.

50. Not sure, but how many times did the 23rd NY district go Dem
in the last 230 years?

I keep getting 23 when I consult my i-ching, which suggests to me that the Repug Party as we know it will be largely extinct in the very near future.

23. LOL ROFL??????
So now Kucinich is the bad guy??????? One of the ONLY democrats in congress during the ENTIRE tenure of the bush regime to stand against the republicans every single day?

Now he needs a challenger because he refused a bill that would send the last bit of wealth americans have to the top 1% and create debtors prisons?

Holy fucking shit. I am simply amazed how many people in this forum these days are completely incapable of any independent thought.

You fools who are now against Kucinich and support this final transfer of remaining wealth to the elite are going to be in for a BIG surprise when you find your selves poorer than you ever imagined being the rest of your natural life.... The rich now own our asses. You just don't know it yet.

When you can stop calling people fools and predicting doom, then we can talk. Until then, you're just another source of negativity, and we have plenty of that coming from the right.

Just give up. Pull your head back into its shell and hibernate for a while. We're fighting with the right. That's a big enough battle. We don't need to be fighting with each other at the same time.

16. I'm not a blind fool
In the past year I have seen more homeless people in this city than at any time in the past 30 years.

You may sit here on a forum and pretend everything is just fine, but I suggest you actually get out in your community and take a look around. I call it like I see it.

This bill was one BIG thing that could have been done to help ease the long term trend of debt ridden americans one pay check away from losing it all. Now true health care reform will never be seen in this country by anyone alive today.

The top 1% are laughing at all fools who believe the middle and lower economic classes will see a recovery. The vast majority of the middle and lower classes will be debt slaves for the rest of their lives. This is the final nail in the coffin.

14. "This bill essentially creates debtors prisons" -just so you know, that is a Wingnut talking point
from an anti-healthcare astroturf group and John Ensign. Just so you'll know

http://politifact.com/truth-o-meter/statements/2009/sep/29/patients-first/conservative-group-says-youll-be-imprisoned-not-ha

POLITIFACT:Conservative group says you'll be imprisoned for not having health insurance

<SNIP>

So let's recap. It is a significant exaggeration to say that the Baucus bill's "health care mandate will require imprisonment and fines for Americans who can’t afford to purchase insurance or pay hefty government penalties." It won't "require imprisonment and fines" — those are simply two of the options for enforcement, and experts say that neither a prison term nor a fine anywhere near that high is likely to be used.

The official responsible for the Patients First release acknowledges that his headline overstated what the Joint Committee on Taxation chief of staff said, but the release does accurately report the penalties in the body of the text. The notion that one could go to prison for not buying insurance is certainly attention-grabbing, but based on past patterns of prosecution, the likelihood of it happening is extremely small. So while the fear seems to us to be overheated, the possibility exists. We rate the statement Barely True.

<SNIP>

++++++++

Please note also that the wingnut group was talking about the Baucus bill which is not being voted on/

20. I don't care what source does your thinking for you
I haven't read one damn talking point at all about this bill. The ONLY reading I have done on this bill is the actual bill its self. I came to my own conclusions.

You want to pretend no poor or middle class family will see jail time when they are already being taken for every dime they have by Sallie Mae, Bank of America, Citi, et al? Give me a freaking break.

Student loans are the next crisis. MANY americans are going to be completely unable to pay such loans when the JOBS needed to pay them aren't coming back. Student loans can never be discharged in bankruptcy. Student loan lenders can even take your damn social security and tax refunds. That combined with a mandate to buy health insurance they can't afford on pain of jail after having other debt payments in default is a recipe for disaster.

This is all adding up together. It sad so many fools can't see what is coming down the line economically.

But hey I was on this forum before the economic collapse happened and was called a republican too. I was right. I'll be bookmarking this post to show to everyone next year.

I am simply pointing you to an article which explains how Republicans have distorted this issue.

You don't have to "read one damn talking point" to have heard it or unconsciously absorbed it. Because they bombard the airwaves with this stuff, it is everywhere you look and listen.

It is helpful to be aware of these things.

"Because they bombard the airwaves with this stuff, it is everywhere you look and listen."

You've made the mistake of coming to the conclusion that like 95% of the country I actually watch that BS.

You know what? I didn't even know who the fuck Glen Beck was until I was forced to read about him here at DU. Why? I don't ever watch TV. Never. Zip. I don't let my self pay attention to what the media wants me to believe.

I look outside in my community to make my conclusions. I read here on DU that the media is saying we are in a full swing economic recovery. I am out in my community every day and I see more homeless people than I ever have in the past 30 years. So guess what my conclusion is about that?

Instead of looking at the TV I suggest you get out and look at your community. It will show you much more truth in one days time than that TV will in a year.

...the Massachusetts state legislature - 7:1 Dem in the Senate, 10:1 in the House - passed a purchase mandate, with penalties and without a public option.

Today, the Senate is still 7:1 Dem, the House is still 10:1, but the state house did turn over -- they have a Democratic governor now.

Clean sweep, baby.

And in a recent poll, a whopping 11% of respondents were calling for repeal.

...which is nice, because if you apply the COLA formula as written into the law -- raises are automatic, not discretionary -- SS checks would be shrinking thanks to deflation in the CPI.

40. That is only a one time payment. A COLA raise is a permenant raise.
Further, the amount that an early retire can make without penalty has not been raised.

It was $14,160 per year in 2009, and will be the same in 2010. So if a senior has a full-time minimum wage job, no over-time, they will make $15,080 per year, and lose $460 of SS, and they will have to pay income taxes on the $920 difference.

So minimum wage is now too much money for a senior to be making.

20 percent. That's their base, and they make a lot of noise - that's what they've got. And they are sure to overreach (see NY's 23rd). But the economy will improve in 2010, jobs will start coming back (maybe at a trickle), and health care reform will be signed into law. And there's plenty to like in the bill, even if it doesn't meet every wish list.
