Another crash on Bay Bridge S-curve

Another day, another Bay Bridge commute slowed to a halt by an accident at the famed S-curve.

On Friday morning, a motorcyclist rear-ended a truck that resulted in a broken leg for the motorcyclist and an hourlong delay for San Francisco-bound drivers.

The accident was the 42nd in the curved area since it opened Sept. 8, said CHP spokesman Shawn Chase. The bridge has been operational 54 days since the detour was installed.

"One way of looking at it is that more than 5 million people have passed through that curve, and only 42 have gotten in an accident," Chase said. "That's not a lot, but of course the goal is for no one to get in an accident. The reality is, if people don't slow down, those are the repercussions."
