10. He certainly shouldn't be a Republican anymore.
His voting record shows that he sometimes sided with Obama. That doesn't help when the Teabaggers resemble the French Revolution.

Dear Congressman Cao: Don't let the naysayers get you down. What you did today showed real courage & commitment to, not only your constituents, but to all Americans. I salute you & your vote on healthcare reform!! And, if you'd like to become a Democrat, we'd love to have you. There's plenty of Kool-Aid left. I hear it comes in grape now... :-) Big Kudos to you!!

22. I have great respect for the man
I fell in love with the Vietnamese people within days of my arriving in their country, it was all for the sole purpose of making life more miserable for them than it already was and to make big bucks for the MIC, and thats fact. I've been carrying the burden of knowing I was a part of the problem there for 15 months and my hope is some remembers me as the kid with a big grin and ready smile with a willing hand other than with hate and discontent. Maybe I met his parents or grandparents, maybe I knew them, I don't know but I have the utmost respect for him as a person, as a Vietnamese and most of all as a US congressman doing the right thing always. A good man, a very good man.

someone help me with the correct pronunciation of his name as I want to show the respect he deserves as I visit with family and friends. Oh and they'll all know who he is after the next visits from me.

12. Huffington Post article about Cao.......
Cao subsequently put out a long statement explaining his vote (and emphasizing the fact that he also voted in favor of the anti-choice provision, presumably to try to stave off the heavy incoming attacks from conservative activists).

Of his vote, Cao said: "Tonight, I voted to keep taxpayer dollars from funding abortion and to deliver access to affordable health care to the people of Louisiana.

Cao said: "I read the versions of the House bill. I listened to the countless stories of Orleans and Jefferson Parish citizens whose health care costs are exploding - if they are able to obtain health care at all. Louisianans needs real options for primary care, for mental health care, and for expanded health care for seniors and children. <...>

Cao said: "Today, I obtained a commitment from President Obama that he and I will work together to address the critical health care issues of Louisiana including the FMAP crisis and community disaster loan forgiveness, as well as issues related to Charity and Methodist Hospitals. And, I call on my constituents to support me as I work with him on these issues.

Cao said: "I have always said that I would put aside partisan wrangling to do the business of the people. My vote tonight was based on my priority of doing what is best for my constituents.

He could have said all the rest of that stuff to justify his vote without saying that an American president is going to give a shit about Louisiana.

So yes, he's very, very anti-choice. Hardcore Catholic.

But I thank him for his vote on the overall bill nevertheless.

28. The People of New Orleans thank Rep. Joseph Cao for voting in our favor against corporate healthcare
The super-majority of New Orleans, meaning 99% of us, appreciate what President Obama and Rep. Cao, and the majority of the Democrats in Congress, are doing for us despite what the obstructionists and naysayers say.

We need a hospital for the uninsured and poor of this city... we do not have one, and this is literally killing us.
