They will go to extreme, and sometimes extremely illegal measures to keep women from ending a pregnancy. They'll harass family planning clinic workers, verbally harangue and sometimes threaten women (and their partners and friends) who enter clinics, and (to me, something that makes a laughingstock of the euphemism "pro-life") occasionally assassinate doctors who perform abortions.

Their obsession with the preservation of an embryo borders on psychotic.

But after a baby whose "life they have saved" is born, they couldn't give a rat's ass about such incidental things as child nutrition, the mother's nutrition, the housing standards and living conditions of mother and child, a child's opportunity to get good daycare, giving the mother the opportunity to work for herself and her child, and other such irrelevant trivialities.

No, they are definitely not "pro-life". In fact, even the term "pro-birth" suggests that they may have something resembling a conscience. Something that says "this is not about me, this is about the human race". Applying terms like "pro-life" and "pro-birth" to them is patently misleading, since for most of them, this is simply about power. Their eagerness to force other people to conform to what they see as "proper moral behavior". Not to minimize the seriousness of rape, which is clearly a crime of power and domination, and not sex, and is far more serious than MOST crimes committed by "pro-lifers", I think many of these so called "pro-lifers" are in the same general ballpark as your cookie-cutter rapist. They revel in their power to force others into submission.

No, "pro-birth" isn't exactly a good replacement for "pro-life". Can anyone here come up with a better one? Something with a more neutral (ergo, more acceptable to the general public) than "family haters", or "doctor killers"?
