Pelosi: Kucinich amendment scuttled to keep Obama promise. Other half of promise ignored
n amendment to allow states to pursue single-payer health care without incurring insurance-industry lawsuits was stripped from the House bill, Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) said Thursday, adding that it would break President Obama's commitment to people keeping their current insurance plan if they like it.
She also said that she had yet to decide whether to allow a vote on a separate amendment from Rep. Anthony Weiner (D-N.Y.) that would replace the entire health care bill with a single-payer system. "We are probably going to be addressing some of those issues in the next 24 hours," she told HuffPost.<snip>

Okay, he said people could keep what they have if they like it. He also said there should be a public option people could buy into. I do not recall Obama saying you have to keep what you have if you don't like it.

1. Weak. It wouldn't be Obama breaking his promise, a state would have to do that and thus
be the culprit (or hero in my opinion).

9. Promises matter when protecting corporate interests and fiscal discipline
matters when providing services for the electorate.

Start talking military funding or tax breaks and all of a sudden promises and fiscal discipline evaporate.

3. He also campaigned hard against mandates in the primaries.
Promises to people other than insurance companies don't seem to matter much.

6. Sounds like David Swanson was correct when he said Obama asked...
Miller to vote against the amendment.

I think David and Kucinich are correct again, any vote now on the Weiner SP amendment is pretty much meaningless, no estimates, no discussions, all is does is let the Dems off the hook by saying they had a vote.
