Instead of boycotting states that are trying to pass equal rights laws
why not boycot/protest those people that are trying to stop us from making all of us equal?

Lets start with Utah....

Mormon church
catholic church
baptists

we worked fucking hard to make sure #1 didn't get passed. It was a damn close vote, and it will come up again. We'll try again...and we'll keep on trying. I know people are angry right now, so am I...but to broad brush one state because of out of state influences is wrong.

If you want us to keep fighting, you need to back us up too.

1. The most effective boycott would be the DNC

4. great! I like this
let's find the $$ - list off those that funded this bullshit - this way we know who to boycott - find those that support gay rights and support them!

2. I don't think it's fair to boycott Maine.
Just think of all the states (mine included) where the issue of marriage equality would never even be considered. At least Maine is trying to do the right thing.

3. Throwing the baby out with the bathwater is a very old tradition. That said, I can't even begin to
imagine the hurt our gay friends are experiencing right now. To finally be given hope only to have it ripped away again.

8. just keep trying is all we can do
hell, if TABOR can make it to ballot 3 flippin times....this can too, and hopefully it will pass next time. I still don't agree that we're voting on basic human rights. It's wrong.

10. It is very wrong. Imagine what other rights would be rescinded at the hands of the ignorant and
bigoted.

I think we need to put it back to vote in a major election year. We might have a better GOTV result then.

7. I tend to agree
The flood of out-of-state money, plus the bigotry of the RCC, is what really helped screw us in Maine.

Boycott Utah? Already there. Mormon money is being spent lavishly to overturn gay rights around the country, and it's time to stop contributing to the source of this funding.

9. Were there any companies within Maine that were funding the anti-equality vote?
I agree, narrow it down, plenty of people in Main voted to keep equality, so don't tar them with the same brush...but go after the ones who did.

11. I do. And I won't boycott/protest Maine, but, I used to live in
New Brunswick, and I know, Aroostock County is a scary place. I won't be going there.

12. Let's not forget, Maine at least HAD a law on its books
We should boycott states that haven't even made it THAT far.

(And Maine still has domestic partnerships.)

13. Tax the churches.
We need to get referendums up to strip tax-free benefits at the drop of a hat. ANY meddling in politics should be rewarded by the loss of priveleges.

14. I Already Boycott the Mormons and Catholics and Baptists.
I badmouth them whenever I can.

And while I wouldn't call for a boycott of Maine, I WILL call for a boycott of those businesses which contributed to Yes on 1. However, I understand that most of them are from OUTSIDE Maine.

Just waiting for the list.
