1. Steele tells Fox
that this shows the democrats are the ones in dissary...never mind the "power house" of the republican Palin, Rush, Armey and Foxness news all supported the outrageous candidate of Hoffman who lost pretty handily to a democrat. And we all know how long it has been since a democrat won that seat. But we are in disarray folks we are really in disarry....

2. Lost pretty handily?
I stopped watching it about midnight last night. By how many percentage points did he lose? Last night it seemed fairly close--and this was a third party candidate who was mostly unknown a few weeks ago. It was a win for us, no doubt. But "handily"?

3. Yes, handily.
A ten per cent lead is considered a "landslide," so I'd say about a 4.5 per cent lead is winning "handily."

And besides, there are 11,000 absentee votes still to be counted -- all of them came in before Hoffman became famous, all of them came before Scozzafava dropped out. I'd guess 5500 for Scozzafava, 5000 for Owens, less than 500 for Hoffman. That 4.5 percent lead will be closer to a ten per cent landslide by the time the votes are counted.

The best a democrat has done in NY-23 was in 1990, when a dem took 38% of the vote.

4. Democrat Bill Owens 49%
Democrat Bill Owens 49%
Conservative Doug Hoffman 46%
Republican Dede Scozzafava 6%

Even though Dede Scozzafava dropped out of the race last weekend, she endorsed Doug Hoffman.

So, I wouldn't call it "handily," but I thought it was odd that the Republican endorsed the Democrat.

It helped that the Republican was about as progressive as the Democrat.
