I'd say picking up TWO Congressional seats is a big deal, but the fucks in charge this morning are pandering to the Right-wing creeps they really secretly want to be.

2. Of course they push this narrative. . .

it moves forward their "horse race" concept and establishes a seeming dynamic of Democratic loss and Republican resurgence, a useful concept when the primary purpose of their effort is to sell soap and other commercial commodities. A secondary benefit (for them) may be seen in the political value of such a misleading headline, and the scenario they are attempting to establish of a Republican party on the mend, rebuilding itself in preparation for the 2010 midterms.

The challenge for us -- as citizens, not as partisan political operatives -- is to find a means to turn the media away from this schoolyard emphasis and move it toward a more responsive and responsible approach. My personal effort involves rarely watching television news but alway writing them with the ideas I believe would draw me back to their audience. Maybe it will work. I can't say. But I do know the level of my knowledge and the degree of my serenity are inversely proportional to the number of hours I do not spend watching television news.

5. That was going to be the angle they wen with no matter what the result.

If the Democrats would have won, the focus would have been on "how difficult it was for them to retain their seats". Especially in the "Democratic stronghold" of Virginia.

The media is only going to focus on the narrative they have been setting up for months. They are fixated on the idea that somehow Obama is weakened and the Republicans are resurgent. Anything to back up that preconceived notion is what they are going to run with.

By tomorrow, the story that teabaggers (the resurgent republican party) destroyed their own chances of electing a conservative in NY-23 will be a footnote.

6. I agree with you. They have been pushing this for a couple of weeks now.

They knew Corzine (an odd guy to say the least) was behind in a somewhat blue state and had their story no matter what happened. I mean they are pushing how Obama has done in his first year even though he has been in office less than 10 months.

That's all you need to know about their agenda. They'll tolerate Olbermann and Maddow for the money they bring in, but don't ever forget who holds the purse strings for all NBC content.
