How have dems helped the poor this year?
Raised taxes on smokes (To pay for health care for kids), Gave tons of money to banks/financial institutions, talked about raising taxes on soda.

Discussed mandates to purchase health care and penalties if you don't buy insurance.

Have not yet passed unemployment extension.

Bailed out auto industry and helped people buy new cars - unless you didn't have a job.

Helped the rich to get out of a recession, a jobless recovery - but hey, the stock market is up. Like the poor have stocks anyway to cash in.

It is, it appears, trickle down economics. Reagan reborn. Let us help the rich first, and quickly, and it will help you.

In the meantime, benefit extensions get passed over, taxes on things you enjoy should go up (we just want to protect you by charging you more), big companies get money handed to them, gays in the military can wait, health care - well we will get around to it eventually but chances are you will still get screwed over, because we have to keep the big companies happy.

The poor and lower middle class way out number the wealthy. And yet they get nothing or very little, and when they are in crisis it just does not seem like an emergency where things need to get passed quickly to help them.

Wanna know why things like tonight happen? It is because people are sick of those in power bullshitting them so they vote for the other party in hopes that things will get better. And we keep telling them it will, then we tell them to wait because we are busy helping out the big companies.

1. Oh good christ
Already passed an unemployment extension AND an increase of $100 month. Increased food stamps and waived the limit. Passed SCHIP increase. Passed weatherization assistance. Raised the Pell Grant. Added two methods to reduce student loan repayment. Created an education program for moms. Poured billions into schools so teachers wouldn't lose their jobs.

I mean honestly, what the fuck. You forget everything that is done for you, bitch whine and moan, and then wonder why we lost VA and NJ.

Fucking Fools.

Edited on Wed Nov-04-09 01:58 AM by fujiyama
but I'm glad you posted this.

I'd also add that thanks to administration bailing out the automakers, my state hasn't completely fell apart. If they had been liquidated, we'd be in even worse state than we are now.

Dems have done things, but they can do much more. This isn't the second coming of Reagan though. That's the most idiotic thing I've read.

2. "Give Me (tax-free) Cigarettes Or Give Me Death!" Updated at 3:19 AM
We were plunging into a full-on depression a year ago. Now, we are in a deep, painful recession.

But it's still a recession. Yet recessions don't destroy most of the wealth of a nation ans generations of the people who built that wealth.

We got REALLY "lucky". Imagine what a financial and social collapse would have done with people like Glenn Beck and "El Rushbo" at the bullhorns.

10. Obama did not run on a platform of 'help the poor'
that was Edwards, and he didn't even make it to Super Tuesday.

And the poor did not elect those Republicans in Virginia or New Jersey.

Also, if we hadn't bailed out the auto industry and the banks, we'd have a lot more poor people now. Sorry if you cannot understand that.

11. Gave ARRA Funds to Community Service Block Grant
which is aimed only at the poor. Dramatic increases in CSBG gives significant aid to the poor and recently unemployed.
