Top 5 Uncle Toms that appear on Faux News
Black folks can be quite conservative in some matters. It shows how racist the repugnantcan

party is that there are no, none, nunca black folks elected in a statewide office. Despite this

faux news can always go to their stable of self hating handkerchief heads. Where is that Christie

guy? He is despicable, guess he is not listed because he's always on Ed's show.

Dammit! You beat me to it (by a few hours) :)

Another black woman here... and I despise them. All of them. Christie and Elder literally make me nauseous.

Don't forget Amy Holmes - too intelligent to believe the bullshit she spouts - and that lunatic Alan Keyes. And that jackass Michael Steele. I know the last two aren't pundits, but former elected officials - all the more repulsive.

Ugh. :puke:

21. hey there back
I'd have more respect for them if they even felt a tinge of being used - like the congressman from - dang, can't remember his name... the ex-football player from OK, I think. Was actually in the Rep. leadership, but he was only there for the photo ops - they never let him take charge or do anything. He at least resented his treatment.

Thanks! :hi:

8. no i doesn't
from wiki

In the novel the Uncle Tom character is a Christian martyr, morally superior to his white owners in an antebellum fiction whose subtext was an argument that the institution of slavery was immoral.

Just because later adaptations reverse poor Tom, doesn't mean it's a correct use of the term. He's the Christ like hero of the book! I do not think the poster meant for us to view these people as Christ like figures. Just saying.

9. I totally get what you're saying and it's a point well taken. But I think the way the term
is being applied reflect a more modern characterization of how many black conservatives are paraded in front of the cameras to give the Republicans cover for their racist rhetoric and hostility to people of color. These black conservatives are typically the first to defend the actions of Republicans and to quickly and affirmatively denounce any charge of racism, subtle or overt. It's astonishing to me and highly offensive. And I believe they do it to gain notoriety for themselves, for that is the Republican way. It's all about self aggrandizement and promotion of the individual over the well being of the collective. While I don't think that all blacks should think and behave the same way--we are not a monolith--and those who are proactive in vilifying the black community and/or rejecting valid claims of racism even though their skin looks like mine, are Uncle Toms (the modern version).

10. skin color
Unfortunately yes ... if we know history we know how the people from Africa were brought to the Americas, how they were enslaved and treated like animals ... how men raped or had sex with black women without consideration of their humanity, want to hear more??? I have not read the book, but forever have understood that Uncle Tom was a traitor to his people in exchange for being treated well and having privileges in the white homes ... In the present world of prejudice and discrimination, even if subtle and hidden ... the uncle Toms still exist... It is so sad!!!

14. history is not true???
I am 79 yrs. with a college education, very involved in social/civic/rights issues as an administrator of programs and an advocate; well read, although not the uncle Tom book. However, ever since my use of reason both during my education and later in my endeavors, the image of Uncle Tom is the coopted negro. In my culture the word negro is not offensive, as a matter of fact it is used as a term of endearment. But the point is, regardless of nomeclature, the fact is that some black persons are coopted by others that in reality do no see or regard them as equals. I have seen it time and time again. He dicho!!!

17. Obviously, it's wrong for anyone to support oppression....Updated at 6:55 AM
but many folks consider it especially odious for members of an embattled group, to take the side of the oppressors. Think also of how a lot of union workers hate scabs even more than oppressive bosses--no-one likes being abused by anyone, but it's particularly galling to be betrayed by your own. Thus the hostility of black Americans toward Toms.
