Schumer wants Freecreditreport.com to give you the report first, THEN ask for your credit card #
Edited on Tue Nov-03-09 05:21 PM by majamay
I once forgot to cancel the free report from freecreditreport.com before the 7 free days, so I got slapped with something like $14 or $19 a month for their credit monitoring service. I realized my mistake after 2 months, so I had to pay about $30-$38.

Charles Schumer wants websites such as freecreditreport.com to give consumers their report first and ask for the credit card information afterwards.

I agree with that. In today's very busy life, one sometimes forgets or doesn't have time to be on hold on the phone to cancel a service. Besides, freecreditreport.com doesn't let you cancel by email. I bet that's because they know it's much more easy and convenient for people to do it that way.

Once a year you can get a free credit report from your state. That's how I get mine.

It's not clear in the article whether this is the case, but I assume that's the case.

I only verified that my card # ended in "**** **** **** 1234". I never typed in the numbers and they charged me anyway.

Obviously completely illegal. I hope they fry.

You are lucky if you only have to talk with 3 people. All of whom trained to argue with you about how your life will turn to shit without them. Cancelled because you are now unemployed? Well -- that is EXACTLY the time you need us to protect you!! Blah, blah, blah.

8. Remember the old Columbia Record Club??
Send the card back, or you get a crappy record :)

NOTHING is free... even if it's named FREEcredit report :)

The ones I love are the sites that claim to check for dangerous viruses & tie up the computer forever, searching..and then tell you they identified 38,467 threats...BUT unless you sign up and pay , they won;t tell you which ones they are or remove them

and from then on they send you emails :)

14. This is stupid. Maybe you should be able to take your food home from
the grocery store first and eat it and then pay for it.

Just read the freakin directions people. You admit you "forgot" to cancel. Just grow up and learn some responsibility.
