Mass Surveillance is great for reducing crime and doesn't scare me......
Unless a religious right nutcase like George W. or someone who has close ties to religious right nutcases like Ronald Reagan is in power. Then it can be downright dangerous and scary but with a normal minded leader like Barack Obama, Bill Clinton, J.F.K. etc..I think it can work. Mass surveillance technology could be very helpful in reducing crime enabling us to walk the streets in any part of town, anytime without worry!! It would send a message to criminals, don't even think about attempting it as you will get caught!!

A lot of people have problems with photo radars found on roads and freeways and think their purpose is just to make a profit. Well they're not just there for that, they are there to improve safety/ reduce accidents. I just think that there should be no warning you are approaching a photo radar area. Posting warning signs causes people speeding to suddenly slow down, which actually increases danger!! Overall, I don't have a problem with cities making a profiting off unsafe drivers who speed and run red lights. If you can't follow the rules of the road, and don't want to pay fines, then don't drive!!!

Our current solution for solving crime, tough sentences, isn't good enough. Both far left liberals and far right conservatives agree that murderers should get life with no parole at the very least. Therefore prosecutors who want to show how tough have to use less serious criminals to show they are tough on crime and thats not fair. People who are caught with Marijuana or cocaine should not be sentenced to 10 or 20 years in prison!! Even people who commit armed robberies should be given a second chance assuming they don't hurt anyone in the process. Its people who kill or cause critical irreversable injury who should be condemmed.

I'm beginning to think they should start assigning soldiers with automatic weapons to stand guard in the streets of the worst neighborhoods of this country so we can take our neighborhoods back and be able to walk anywhere, anytime. So in summary...to greatly reduce crime and make the worst neighborhoods in this country more desirable...

We also need to improve the publics perception of police officers. Far too many people believe cops are bad and out to get you. And with the way the laws currently are, especially in conservative states like Arizona, who can blame people for thinking this!! Simply getting caught with a small amount of marijuana can be a felony, and religious zealots have tried to make soliciting prostitutes a felony!! Laws like this make people hate police and thats dangerous for both society and for police officers!!

1. Use mass surveillence to let criminals and terrorists know the chances of them getting away with something is greatly reduced
2. Keep religious right nutcases, fundamentalists, and far right republicans out of power (George W. Bush, Jim DeMint, Andrew Thomas, Joe Arpaio)
3. legalize drugs (http://www.leap.cc ) and prostitution
4. Put soldiers in high crime ghetto neighborhoods to stabalize the area

8. You've apparently not thought this out enough
Cameras don't stop real criminals, it's easy enough to disguise yourself. They give an illusion of security to some, and an easy way to fabricate evidence for others. Crime actually has not gone down due to the placement of cameras on every corner.

Crime and poverty are inextricably intertwined and our law and order culture actually creates more criminals than it catches, because there's no really bright line. You will continue to have violent crime until you value life (the post-born) in this country. I'm actually surprised you don't have more.

Not only does the idea of soldiers on the street with automatic weapons violate the Posse Comitatus Act, it's incredibly stupid and dangerous for everyone concerned - soldiers and civilians. In D.C. the Nation of Islam set men on every corner, unarmed, in the worst areas. By doing that they reduced violent crime in a miraculous fashion, and eventually got the gangs to the table for "peace talks" over pizza - Robert Woodson was part of this project and it's a moment of pride for him. I remember transcribing the meetings he had afterward, it was a huge teachable moment, but no one was listening. It worked, because the men from the Nation of Islam were willing to risk their own lives to stop the bloodshed of others. They valued life, so others followed this example.

Children in this nation, unless they are the very wealthy, grow up knowing that they have no value except that which they can achieve by serving the very wealthy. We DO NOT value life, period. It's a systemic problem that must be addressed. You don't address it with cameras and soldiers on the street.

12. Why let a pesky little thing like the 4th amendment slow us down in our march to a police state?
:sarcasm:

And, as a far left liberal, I assure you I don't believe all murderers should get life without parole. There is a reason there are different degrees of murder under the law.
