"Cash For Clunkers"
Am in a "discussion" with a (Far) RW guy. He claims that it was an absolute bust -- a costly financial boondogle, costing taxpayers an incredible amount ($24,000 per sale?). I don't even own a car, so I haven't been really following that program. Can anyone here steer me onto some authoritative refutation to that?

3. I got the basic claim all right.
But I was looking for information on whether or not the program succeeded in it's primary aim: "save the auto industry and stem the crash". Still looking.

4. In my case it is true
I bought a ford ranger in C4C in August I would have bought it anyway.

5. Yep there was absolutely no reason for the Cash for Clunker Program
People were just lined up to buy new cars. The Car Industry was just a humming and than along came Cash for Clunkers to destroy it all..
