I sent these emails to my Senator, Debbie Stabenow, and my Congressman, Mike Rogers. As you will see, the messages differ greatly.
Dear Miss Stabenow,
I am writing you in the aftermath of seeing both bills unveiled. I am happy, but also very sad. I am happy because both bills contain the public option. But I am sad that the option will only be available to a select few people. I wish deeply that anybody who wished to stop being gouged by the for-profit companies could turn to the government plan. However, I have heard it will only be available to about 3% of the population. This, combined with the mandate that everybody buys health insurance, delivers millions of new customers, gift-wrapped, to the doorsteps of the very entities responsible for us to be in this position in the first place.
I appreciate the way you and a few other Senators have, and continue to, fight with all you've got to help the American people. It's just unfortunate that most of your other colleagues in the Senate are unable to stand up and fight, out of fear that those insurance companies will stop contributing money to keep them in Washington.
Sincerely, Tim Myers ____________________________________________________________________
Dear Mr. Rogers,

But I am sad that the option will only be available to a select few people. I wish deeply that anybody who wished to stop being gouged by the for-profit companies could turn to the government plan. Of course, the only reason we have even gotten this far, is for a few tenacious Democrats who refused to give up on the American people. We all know that this has happened despite you and your House colleagues' best efforts, funded by the insurance industry, to block any hopes of reform. I like to think that everybody is inherently good, and that they sometimes just don't see the error of their ways. This time, I seem to have been proven wrong. The way the Republicans have turned their backs on the citizens of this country is disgusting. They have shunned their constituents, who want this reform to be even stronger, in favor of the greedy, uncaring companies who fill their campaign coffers. I hope I'm wrong, but I don't think so. It seems crystal clear that your side of the aisle values money over human life. I beg you sir, to prove me otherwise and do the right thing.
Sincerely, Tim Myers
