Where do you see humanity in 50 years?
Struggling, always on the cusp of disaster but somehow always pulling through despite war, global inequity and natural resource depletion?

7. What humanity? All I see is a beautiful planet revolving around the sun; its oceans
a bright blue against its sparkling white ice caps at both poles.

9. I saw an IMAX movie that speculated that squid would be the next higher form of life.
Well after we are gone. I find that comforting.

14. In the last phase of the next global war fought with biological weapons
See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/War_cycles for intervals between Thirty Years War, Napoleonic Wars, and WWs I&II.

Biological science is now where chemistry and physics were in the late 1800's. So biotech will be the foundation for the strategic weapons of then next global conflict, which is due around 2040. It should last until about 2070, and it should reduce world population from around 9 billion back to less than 6 billion.
