Iowa Republicans wince at Sarah Palin's $100K speaking fee
A conservative Iowa group’s effort to lure Sarah Palin to its banquet next month has had an unintended effect: Rather than exciting conservatives about the prospect of a visit from the former Alaska governor, the group’s plan to raise a six-figure sum to bring her to the state has GOP activists recoiling at the thought of paying to land a politician's speaking appearance.

The Iowa Family Policy Center’s effort to cobble together $100,000 for Palin would represent a striking departure from customary practice in the first-in-the-nation state, these Republicans say, noting that a generation of White House hopefuls has paid their own way to boost their party and presidential ambitions.

Were Palin to appear in Iowa on November 21st, it would mark her first trip back to the state since she spoke to a handful of rallies there last fall as the GOP’s vice-presidential nominee. She would offer powerful counter-programming to another major political event that night: The Iowa Democratic Party’s Jefferson-Jackson Dinner with Vice-President Joe Biden as the headliner.

But representatives from other Iowa-based political advocacy groups said they would never consider shelling out money for what many politicians see as a privilege: the opportunity to speak to a room full of sure-fire caucus-goers who often serve as precinct captains and can be instrumental to a presidential candidate’s success.

Hilarious.

5. The Revenge of Sarahpalinium!
Edited on Thu Oct-29-09 08:53 AM by derby378
I knew it!

Physicists at the Lawrence Livermore Laboratories, operating on a grant from the Republican National Committee, have discovered the heaviest element yet known to science.

The new element, dubbed sarahpalinium (Sp), exhibits a nucleus with properties that have yet to be discovered in any other atomic nucleus, including the presence of two new hadrons: youbetchatrons, which are made up primarily of charm quarks; and nordstrons, which appear to be made up of strange quarks which constantly interact with campaign funds. These hadrons, which have not yet been counted, are buffered in the nucleus by one neutron, one lieutenant neutron, 20 deputy lieutenant neutrons, 40 assistant deputy lieutenant neutrons, and 15,000 employee neutrons, giving sarahpalinium an atomic mass of no less than 15,062. These hadrons are held together by elementary forces called morons which occasionally emit radiation in the form of alpha, beta, and inwhatrespectcharlie particles.

Sarahpalinium is orbited by an indeterminate number (see below) of lepton-like particles called peons, with only one peon occupying the innermost shell (the "Todd shell") and exercising an unusual influence over the sarahpalinium nucleus. Beyond the Todd shell is a shell with five peons (the "Track/Bristol/Willow/Piper/Trig shell"), and a third shell with 9,780 peons (the "Wasilla shell").

Sarahpalinium impedes every reaction with which it comes into contact. A tiny amount of sarahpalinium can cause a reaction that would normally take less than a second to take as long as four years to complete.

Sarahpalinium is inherently unstable, possessing a half-life that will expire on July 26, 2009. At this point, sarahpalinium will either wink out of existence or develop a controversial fourth peon shell that some physicists claim may contain all remaining matter in four-dimensional spacetime, which means that the very universe may indeed revolve around sarahpalinium.

23. I must admit, she took it well -- publicly, anyway.
After the show, who knows? Maybe a little slapping around of Todd to make it all better. Or maybe shooting a moose. Or maybe slapping around Levi. Or maybe just going shopping on the RNC's credit card.

Yeah, I can't say that I get it, either, but it apparently works on too many conservative Republican guys.

13. In their debate, Joe was the cool-browed pro, relying on facts to bolster
his points of view on the issues, while Palin was afflicted with a strong case of the cutes with her flippant remarks. Someone had coached her to say, 'Say it ain't so, Joe' so that the media could slurp that off the linoleum and characterize how the bright young Alaskan Governor Gal made the Old Guard Democrat feel antiquated.

It didn't work.

Iowa Republicans are being asked to fork over one hundred thousand bucks to hear someone who wouldn't know a complete sentence if it bit her in the ass.

15. Palin Quote: "Those who would sell their body for money reflect a desperate need for attention"
Aimed at Levi, but I think she is projecting a bit. If the show fits wear it,

"Consider the source of the most recent attention-getting lies—those who would sell their body for money reflect a desperate need for attention and are likely to say and do anything for even more attention."

16. There are many out there who will buy her goods. She
has learned how to make money and isn't going to stop until forced to. Maybe by that time she will have amassed a good amount and can enjoy it. She knows how to take advantage of Republicans. And it doesn't take much bait to reel them in.
