We did not draw a line in the sand. We let neo-con whores intimidate us with shouts of "Why do you hate America?" and warnings to "watch what we say". The law was disregarded.
We SHOULD have impeached the snarling chickenhawk-in-Chief, Cheney, but we did not. Again, no line in the sand, even after his lies were made public, his encouragement and facilitation of torture and the rape of the Constitution were beyond question and, yes, even after he had ADMITTED his crimes. The law was disregarded.
We SHOULD have investigated, tried and convicted those who authorized the waterboarding and other forms of torture, but we did not. No sand on our toes again. We clucked our disapproval of Lyndie England and let Mr. Anal Cyst compare Abu Ghraib to fraternity hazing. The law was disregarded.
We SHOULD have prosecuted those who illegally wiretapped our phones and computers and searched our houses without warrants. We SHOULD have prosecuted the insiders who illegally sold Lehman Brothers "short" and made hundreds of millions in just over two weeks. We SHOULD have prosecuted anyone who carried a loaded weapon to an President Obama public event, just as we WOULD have prosecuted anyone who displayed an offensive tee-shirt at a similar Bush event.
BUT, WE DID NOT. The law was disregarded.
We DID send Tommy Chong to prison for selling bongs on the internet. We DID jail Cindy Sheehan to jail for trying to end the war of choice that cost her son's life. And, we DID convict Scooter Libby (sort of---didn't we?)
When does this stop, people? When do we again become a "nation of laws"? When can we again say that "no one is above the law" without laughing, crying or puking?
