Let's bust Beck - FCC
Edited on Sat Oct-24-09 10:43 AM by Screwball
Since the latest spectacle from Glenn Beck with the baseball bat, I decided I had enough of this crazy man on the TV. I wrote to the FCC and complained about the latest shenanigans. I suggest everyone does the same.

It is easy to do, just follow the questions and leave a brief description.

Enough of those complains might slow this nut job down a little bit.

3. Latest Shenanigans
Recently, he talked about "Chicago-Style Politics" in a fake mafia accent while holding a baseball bat, showing video clips from "The Untouchables". Your basic Beck verbal diarrhea.

7. ahhh, thanks
To be sure, beck is a douchebag so he is one I avoid. I believe it is best to simply not tune in.

8. Glenn Beck is on cable.
The FCC has no jurisdiction over the content.

9. If the FCC doesn't have jurisdiction over Faux's content, who does?
And what exactly do they mean by "regulating", here?

About the FCC
The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) is an independent United States government agency. The FCC was established by the Communications Act of 1934 and is charged with regulating interstate and international communications by radio, television, wire, satellite and cable. The FCC's jurisdiction covers the 50 states, the District of Columbia, and U.S. possessions.

10. If the FCC doesn't have jurisdiction over Faux's content, who does?
No one.

The only way the FCC can have jurisdiction over cable and satellite is for congress to amend the commissions mandate by law. Until then he's going to stay on the air for the foreseeable future.

17. For the most part the FCC sets and enforces technical standards.
Rules that prevent my radio station from knocking yours off the air...stuff like that. Their only concern with content concerns things like time allocated for advertising and obscenity. They have even less jurisdiction with regards to cable content because cable is something that people have to actively seek out and pay for.

Now as vile as Glenn Beck is, he has every right to say whatever he wants to say and if a cable network want to give him air time and a paycheck, your only options are to a) not watch it or b) watch it and complain to someone who can do something about it which is either the advertisers or the network.

13. Slow him down? Even if the FCC did have jurisdiction, this IS his thing.

His button pushing, over the line, insanity is his bread and butter. If there were official sanctions or warnings, he'd just revel.

And, if push comes to shove, even I might have to defend his 1st amendment rights to satire.
