Nebraska Seeing Impact From Stimulus Dollars
OMAHA, Neb. -- Out of the $787 billion in federal stimulus dollars, Nebraska’s share is nearly $2 billion. But where is that money going in the Cornhusker State?

Three-year-old Aaron is one Nebraskan benefiting from the federal stimulus program. Omaha Public Schools audiologists use the latest technology to test Aaron’s hearing. The equipment was purchased with stimulus dollars.

“Some of these funds are just now, almost eight months later, coming to the school districts,” said OPS Assistant Superintendent Dennis Pool.

Pool said piles of paperwork slowed the process in the beginning, but $55 million of federal stimulus money is starting to funnel into the Omaha Public Schools. Nebraska education will receive a total of $236 million, primarily for students in special education and those living below the poverty level.

1. Wonder if little Aaron's parents are the usual dickwad Repubs in this state
who bitched and grumbled about the money.

2. I have a problem with taxpayer money being used to buy medical equipment like this.
Especially, when it is only when during the year?

I would think it would be better to arrange with a local audiologist to test them.

3. I'm guessing this equipment is used for school/preschool screenings.
And I would assume the person doing the screenings is a state or city-employed audiologist. I have no problem with it--the equipment will see a lot of use, hundreds and hundreds of kids.
