Pittsburgh weatherman says: No global warming!
While monitoring the G-20 protests on social media site Twitter last month, it was surprising to see a series of tweets by KDKA chief meteorologist Jeff Verszyla:

"Global Warming? NASA Scientist Leonard Weinstein uses the melting of Arctic and Greenland ice to show how CO2 cannot cause catastrophic melting in the future. In fact, both areas are well within the norm of natural variation.

"Tons of REAL SCIENTIFIC evidence to debunk the Al Gore led movement ... which is mostly politically motivated. Don't believe the hype!"

*snip*

Verszyla, who has a degree in broadcast communications and English from Allegheny College and a certificate of broadcast meteorology from Mississippi State University, declined further comment this week.

I love how these people with "certificates" in meteorology think they are automatic experts on the climate and are on par with someone with a PhD. in Climatology.

On a side note:

How fake looking can you get?

1. Yet one more example of the trend toward giving credence
as an "equal" argument when it just isn't equal. Hundreds of qualified scientists have written on the very real danger of global warming. Yet, you get a couple of non-scientists, paid by rightwing think tanks, to spout fake "evidence", and we're supposed to accept this charade as a viable, and equal, argument. It's not. It's a kindergarten class being asked to play basketball against an NBA team. It's that ludicrous.
This guy is a lightweight tool.

2. He's an idiot
Note he doesn't even have a degree in meteorology - he has a certificate of broadcast meteorology from Mississippi State University. I thought this a great debunking of these "weather clowns" who try to argue against Global Warming.

Why do some meteorologists disbelieve climate change? Adams chalks it up to cultural differences between two different fields of study.

"There are big differences between weather and climate," he said. "Weather is all about short-term variability and climate is about long-term trends and those are really governed by different processes."

He compared it to differences in other related fields.

"Let's say you have a brain aneurysm: It's the difference between a neurosurgeon and someone with a bachelor's degree in chemistry. There are a lot of degrees of expertise and I think that gets lost for the average person, who thinks, 'He's on TV and he's explaining the weather to me so why wouldn't he know about climate?' "

12. Some have actual degrees and others have "certificates". I've noticed that most of the deniers have
"certificates" and a lot of meteorologists who acknowledge global warming have actual degrees (some even have masters degrees).

Not even a certificate in meteorology, just in broadcast meteorology, whatever that is.

4. Global warming is real...
If there is any REAL argument, it's to the cause, and to whether there's anything that "man" can do to stop it or slow it down.

The thing that really pisses me off is the RW denial, and the way this issue is used as an excuse to continue polluting.

6. Certificate of broadcast meteorology?
That sounds like it qualifies him to get up in front of a blue screen, point dramatically, and read what the REAL scientists have typed into the teleprompter.

13. I love how people with a "certificate" act like it's the same thing as a PhD in Climatology....
...at least the TV weathermen/women with a B.S. or something in Meteorology have had real science training at a the university level....unlike people who just got their diploma through an online program

These guys should be sent to the dark ages. They will feel at home there.

8. But are we not seeing record cool temps across our Nation?
I am not saying Climate change is not taking place and I am not saying we are not attributing to that.

And I'm no scientist, but in my mind I think of the weather as Mother Earth's immune system...

Is it not possible for Mother earth to use it's immune system to slow us down? I think it could be, why couldn't she just freeze herself over again? It has happened in the past, why couldn't it happen again?

I know it sounds a lot like that movie "The Day After Tomorrow" (great movie) and yes I just watched it yesterday but to me I would think our planet would freeze itself over as a reaction to all of our polluting ways as opposed to burning up...

I'm just thinking outloud here...

9. He doesn't believe in ..
Global Warming? Have him move to L.A. and live here for a while. The temperatures get hotter every year, the rainfall decreases and the weather grows vastly different from the way it was when I was a child. Fifty years is a pretty fast acceleration for weather change if there is no causative factor.

In the meantime here we are deep in October and looking forward to more high temperatures next week. Last week we had three days that hit 100. Feh. The man is an idiot.

Hell, I might get a broadcast meteorology certificate too. I've already taken many of the courses as electives in the past.
