Not from The (Maui) Onion, either, I'm afraid.

http://www.starbulletin.com/news/20091019_Furlough_blame_game.html

So she is watching Hawaii's leaders closely for their response to Furlough Fridays, a budget-cutting plan that is shaping up as a political disaster....

"There is a widespread feeling of outrage waiting to be mobilized," said James Koshiba, one of the founders of Kanu Hawaii, a community improvement organization. "It's sad and shameful that at the very moment when President Obama is calling for a longer school year, his home state has reduced ours to the shortest school year in the nation."...

"This is really an unacceptable solution," says Pono Shim, president of Enterprise Hawaii, an economic development organization. "We aren't really furloughing the teachers. We are furloughing the kids, and time is running out to do something."...

And finally...

Hawaii Republican Party Chairman Jonah-Kuhio Kaauwai argues the HSTA agreed to the furloughs and that Gov. Linda Lingle was not involved. Plus, he says, the Legislature is controlled by the public employee unions.

:nopity: :nopity: :nopity:

Worst of all, now they have to change the words to the popular local ditty to "It's Aloha Thursday, no school 'til Monday..." :eyes:

3. The Republican Administration/Gov Lingless has not improved Hawaii living conditions/econ since

taking office 7 years ago...like Bush, she has loaded up her staff with a mixture of good and bad....but the bad dept heads make the losses greater than them good appointees...

There is no plans on how to deal with our probs other than band aid crap...like cutting the budget...

Worse, the DLNR has defunded the Anuenue Fisheries, a state run research center for marine fishes etc..

Funded by the Legislature, Lingle cut the funds unilaterally for other purps not approved by the Legis...

The professional Staff are now scattered to the high winds ...tragic....years of research needed to produce more food for us now in limbo...

That is only one example of poor leadership...

The cronies are ensconcing themselves into civil service positions too...just like them Pubs...and Dems do it too...but on a lesser scale

She has not been a very good Gov...mostly lip service and band aids...

ask her whatever happened to the SUSTAINABILITY PROGRAM she proposed 6 years ago....Nada...all lip service...so typ of Pubs...

Come, we go party, eat Spam and rice...drink beer/hot crabs

6. When the budget permits it again, the kids will have to make up the time.
That happened to me once. My local school district went broke when I was in about second grade. They had to cancel school for quite some time. When they finally managed to pass a new operating levy, we had to go to school on Saturdays to make up the lost time. It sucked.
