Kids Under 10 May Need 2 Swine Flu Vaccine Doses
http://www.nytimes.com/aponline/2009/10/14/health/AP-US-MED-Swine-Flu-Vaccine.html

<snip>

SWIFTWATER, Pa. (AP) -- The vaccine maker Sanofi Pasteur says tests of its swine flu vaccine suggest that children under 10 may need two doses to be fully protected.

The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention says Wednesday's news is not surprising. This age group needs two doses of regular seasonal vaccine for full immunity to develop.

Federal officials have been hoping that one shot or squirt of nasal spray would do, so they can stretch the available supply of a vaccine much in demand.

1. Any other parents
getting this for their school age kids?

We had been told by our doc that cases were mild and they prolly wouldn't need this, but the news lately has me wondering if we should go ahead and get the vaccine anyway just to be safe.

Any thoughts?

6. I'm getting this for my daughter. And if there's enough, for my wife and myself as well.
Even if it might not kill us, it's our civic responsibility to protect those around us we come into contact with.

But if I still DO get sick, I'm going to Republican Town Hall meetings.

2. This is getting fishy IMO
Why not 3 shots a year? 4? 10?

I'm not an anti-vaccine guy, I just recognize marketing when I see it.

7. The Hepatitis vaccine takes more than two shots. It's not marketing. It's nature. Besides...
... people want medications that are LESS trouble.

Hence things like once-a-month birth control pills.

One-dose treatments for yeast infections.

Etc.

4. My special needs kids are getting the H1N1 vaccine.
Both children are in the subset of children who are most at risk of developing serious illness if they get the H1N1 flu. One is under 10 so she will probably get 2 doses. For them, it is more risky not to get the vaccine.

5. yup my kids, wife and me have all had our vaccines for both the flu and h1n1
would rather be a customer of the vaccine companies than a victim of the flu. We were also told that our two kids need to come back in a month to have a follow up dose of both..
