Minnesota state Sen. Tarryl Clark (D) is off to a fast fundraising start, and looks to be asserting herself as the early frontrunner in the race to face Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-Minn.).
Clark announced Monday that she pulled in $308,000 in a little more than two months since announcing her candidacy for the seat. Meanwhile, Dr. Maureen Reed (D), who turned in a strong $230,000 second quarter, saw her receipts fall off with Clark’s entry, to $130,000 in the third quarter.
Clark has also gained the support of several key labor groups in recent weeks, making her a favorite for the state party’s endorsement in the race.
Reed said late last week that she would no longer pledge to abide by that endorsement, and that she might challenge Clark in a primary.
By virtue of her earlier start, Reed still has more cash on hand, with $300,000. Clark banked $270,000 at the end of the quarter.
