Nutter just called informing me of a "Outrageous United Nations plan to ban guns."
Edited on Mon Oct-12-09 01:32 PM by Lone_Star_Dem
It's an office so I had to give him the official, "I'm sorry but we're on the do not call registry and don't accept calls of this nature." The call was listed as Unknown, and when I requested his information to report him since our office is on the registry he hung up.

What are the nutters up to now?

4. He didn't identify himself as being with the NRA
He simply gave me a first name and went off on his UN babble.

I'll look for the other posts, thank you. :)

The thread I saw is over 48 hours old because my reply has scrolled off my list.

18. AHA! That might explain why, all of a sudden, we've been getting calls from the NRA.
They're out there - busy little bees, doing the work of the Devil.

Political organizations are exempt from it.

Take it from the guy who's been on the other end.

20. You don't need to state a reason to hang up ,you just need to know why you are.
Telecommunication is a ploy to acquire audience for a one way tutorial ,cheap.

6. I got that memo.
It said early morning on the __th of ____ember at ___ o'clock sharp please meet at location ________ to begin going door to door and rounding up all the firearms.

If anyone gives you trouble remember the deportation camps we have set up for the anti-liberals. If anyone refuses to surrender their weapons we will electofry their testicular pendulations using jumper cables and a Ford F25000 truck battery, even the women.

:silly:

You know the opposite of the NRA is the Democratic party, mmm hmm, and if the NRA can circulate talking points and memos and fake emails to scare the gungeoneers, then so can we. We're coming for yer guns!!!!

Yee haw!

7. I thought you meant Mayor Nutter of Philly
I thought that was a really, really odd thing for him to do.
I got a call like that last summer from a Larouchie. It was a real person.
I thought she was kidding. But she persisted. I started laughing, laughing loudly. She just kept at it.
Finally I told her I had to go, that it had been fun. But I advised her that she should check herself into a local mental health institution in the morning.
Funny thing was - I was hosting an OFA calling party at the time. Everybody stopped to listen to my conversation.

Well, at least it explains the reason the person was so weird. LaRouche is anti UN so this fits them perfectly.

Thanks! :hi:

NRA last week. That was one of the "questions". They are slick in asking their questions in such a manner that they can only be answered in a way that supports their agenda, the wing-nuts are to stupid to see through it though. I think it said something like, "Would you oppose a foreign government ordering you to turn in your guns?" Other examples of the questions would be, "Do you think only criminals should have guns?" Or, "Would you vote for Senator (------) if he introduced a bill that would take guns away from all law abiding citizens?" This plants the seed in the wing-nut moron's head that Senator (-------) actually introduced such a bill.

on edit: They don't have Teddy Kennedy to kick around any more. Their correspondence used to always demonize Hillary and Teddy, I wonder who they will replace him with?

13. They were probably concerned about this:
http://www.thestate.com/166/story/978884.html

"Campaign begins to start gun treaty negotiations

UNITED NATIONS -- Seven countries have launched a campaign for the U.N. to start negotiations on a new treaty regulating the global arms trade to help prevent the illegal transfer of guns that kill and maim thousands every day.

John Duncan, Britain's ambassador for multilateral arms control and disarmament, said the four-week meeting of the General Assembly's disarmament committee, which started Monday, will be "pivotal" in deciding whether to launch formal negotiations on a new Arms Trade Treaty.

According to a report published this week by the British relief agency Oxfam and 11 other non-governmental organizations, some 2.1 million people - overwhelmingly civilians - have died either directly or indirectly as a result of armed violence since the General Assembly first voted in December 2006 to work toward a treaty regulating the growing, multibillion dollar arms trade.

This is the equivalent of more than 2,000 people dying every day - worse than one person killed each minute, the report said."

I would like to live in a world without guns - but not sure that that is possible. I think we need to move toward a less violent culture first because otherwise other weaponry may just take the place of guns.

16. As with most NRA scare tactics there is a kernel of truth.
Edited on Mon Oct-12-09 02:22 PM by aikoaiko
I haven't gotten such a call, but there are NGOs involved with the UN small arms anti-proliferation organization such as IANSA who is headed up by Rebecca Peters.

Rebecca Peters is on record for wanted to reduce civilian firearm ownership through regulation.

From a transcript of a "debate" between Wayne LaPierre of the NRA and Rebecca Peters of IANSA*:

Wayne LaPierre: If Ms Peters and the UN can’t tell the difference between the good guys and the bad guys, I think we’re all in trouble. It as simple water quenches thirst and food quenches hunger. Good people know that a firearm will protect them. It goes back to humanity.

I mean people can tell the difference between criminals and bad governments and Mother Teresa. But let me say this. Ms Peters, the audience deserves to know the truth. What you’re really after is a global permission slip. Your definition of “moderate” is the most extreme definition imaginable. From your own words, here you are in a CNN interview in October 2003. You want to ban every rifle that can shoot over 100 meters. . That’s a football field for people back in the US. That’s every hunting rifle in the United States. The founding document of IANSA, your very own organisation says, and I quote, “Reduce the availability of weapons to civilians in all societies.” Duck hunters in -- in Australia. Taking away their pump shotguns.

Here’s your ad. And I can give you all these NGOs you work with. Pamphlet after pamphlet after pamphlet, I can stack them to the ceiling, where you call for no to individual armament. So let’s be honest. You want to take guns away from all people, a global bureaucracy to do it. We’re not going to let it happen.

Moderator: So is that true?

Rebecca Peters: We want to see a drastic reduction in gun ownership across the world. Yes. We want to see much lower proliferation of guns among the civilian population, and t also among governments. Guns are misused by government officials, by police, by armies. One of the reasons why they justify it, their misuse of guns is because they say the civilian population is full of criminals who are so armed.
There’s an arms race that goes on between governments and criminals. Yea, we want to reduce the number of guns in circulation around the world.

* The transcript doesn't look official.

And non-profits are excluded from that ruling, as well.

I'd just hang up on them.
