We have completed the reorganization of the DU Groups
You can see the new categories here:

And the Lobby has been updated:

For those who were confused by my (admittedly not very good) explanation of how we were going to "link" Topic Forums to the Group categories, here is an example in the Economy & Jobs category:

Unfortunately we had some trouble archiving the few Groups which were being retired, so they will remain off until we can come up with a fix.


What to do if you think your Group has been miscategorized

If you are a member of an active Group and you think you're in the wrong category, here's what to do:

1) Discuss the issue in your Group and come to a consensus about where you believe the Group should be.

2) Once you have reached consensus, send an email to one of the administrators with a link to the discussion and let us know which category you think you should be in.


New functionality

In addition to the reorganization, we have added new functionality to any forum or Group that can be added to your "My Forums" list.

If a forum (or Group) is NOT in your "My Forums" list, you will now have an option to add it right at the top of the page:



If the forum (or Group) is already in your "My Forums" list, you will have an option to remove it.

4. I was told by a member of that Group that
they were posting their stuff in Environment/Energy. The Peak Oil Group had not been used in months.

Religion & Spirituality
Science & Skepticism

Since we don't have a "Religion & Skepticism" category, we had to put it in once place or the other. People who post in the Atheists & Agnostics Group expressed a preference for the latter, so that's where we put it.

This started post-Katrina, but several posters used it for other disasters. If you would like to start posting "preparedness" stuff there, I will visit, k&r and it would be very nice.

The DU Hurricane Survivors Group is a place for DU members from Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, South-west Texas, and Southern Florida and elsewhere who are or have been victims of the recent Hurricanes to check-in, meet each other, trade accounts, offer advice or just show support for their fellow survivors. It is also a place for posting Hurricane related news stories, which seem to have been bumped from the front pages, if they are still being reported at all.

This doesn't work anymore.

How about " a place for DU members who have been impacted by natural disasters, to check in, meet each other, trade accounts, offer advice or just show support for their fellow survivors. It is a place for people wanted to respond to disasters to coordinate activities. It is also a place for posting Preparedness info for disasters"?
