Neo-Nazi Blows Hands Off Making Explosives in CA at Mom's Day Care

A young man blew his hands off while making homemade high explosives inside his family's California home, where his mother ran a day care center, law enforcement sources say. Neo Nazi and anarchist type literature were found in the home, authorities said. There is no known link at this time to any organized rightwing extremist group.

The sheriff in Riverside, CA said suspect Benjamin Kuzelka, 23, was also growing marijuana in the home.

A substantial quantity of the high explosive TATP -- used in London bombings and suspected in the current Najiboullah Zazi /alleged New York terror plot case -- has been located at the scene, counter terrorism sources say.

Kuzelka is expected to be charged with manufacturing explosives, growing marijuana and child endangerment, since he was mixing the explosives inside the Kuzelka Day Care center run by his mother. He is currently in the hospital with serious injuries and will be taken to jail upon release. His brother and mother were also arrested on marijuana charges.

A man who was injured in Lake Elsinore while making explosives last night blew off four of his fingers on one hand and suffered injuries to his chest and face, authorities said.

Benjamin Kuzelka, 23, arrived at Inland Valley Regional Medical Center in Wildomar before midnight claiming that he shot himself in the hand, said Sgt. Pat Chavez of the Riverside County Sheriff's Department. The injuries were not consistent with a gunshot wound and hospital officials reported the incident to the sheriff's department.

When deputies searched Kuzelka's home on Audelo Street near Alvarado Street, they discovered a clandestine marijuana-growing operation in one room and bomb-making materials hidden in the backyard, Chavez said.

Kuzelka's mother, Rebecca Kuzelka, 55, operates a daycare center in the home for children aged two to five. The permit allowed Kuzelka to care for up to eight children, Chavez said.

Apparently, Kuzelka's brother, Grey Kuzelka, 21, had tried to hide the bomb-making materials before deputies arrived, moving them from the garage to the backyard, Chavez said.
