The moon rises a couple hours after sunset on Friday evening
I heartily encourage everyone to peek outside tomorrow night and see whether anything horrible has happened to the moon.

There's nothing like doing science from your own front porch.

7. Hey, don't laugh...
There was a mathematics professor at my alma mater--Iowa State. He was pretty infamous for wanting
to blow up the moon. He said the absence of the moon would change the tilt of the Earth--giving us beautiful
weather and also slowing climate change.

I interviewed him when I was a reporter for the student newspaper. He was quite the trip.

31. That is why we're dropping TWO spacecraft on the Moon!
One to get things stirred up, the second to observe and hit while it's not looking. :silly:

LCROSS launched with the Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter (LRO) aboard an Atlas V rocket from Cape Canaveral, Fla., on June 18, 2009 at 2:32 p.m. PDT. The LCROSS shepherding spacecraft and the Atlas V’s Centaur upper stage rocket executed a fly-by of the moon on June 23, 2009 and entered into an elongated Earth orbit to position LCROSS for impact on a lunar pole. On final approach, the shepherding spacecraft and Centaur will separate. The Centaur will act as a heavy impactor to create a debris plume that will rise above the lunar surface. Projected impact at the lunar South Pole is currently: Oct 9, 2009 at 4:30 a.m. PDT. Following four minutes behind, the shepherding spacecraft will fly through the debris plume, collecting and relaying data back to Earth before impacting the lunar surface and creating a second debris plume.

Or will there be some delayed reaction? The Moon will be in late Gemini, if anyone is interested? If there is a catastrophic earthquake or tidal wave, we can just call it coincidence. There will be no scientific explanation. Only theories.

is that people have read the prophecies, but chose not to take them literally.

Religious ranting= chaos and violence.
Spiritual teachings of elders= peace and the betterment of all living beings.

Any more questions?
Perhaps you should do some research of your own.
Start with the Kogi link and then we can discuss some things in a year.

It's not torturing an animal. You you knew anything about cats, you'd realize that if the cat was uncomfortable, it would get out.

THIS is real animal torture:

Actual animal torture is not funny. YOU are funny for looking at my profile to try to find something objectionable.

Guess they didn't 40 years ago, either, when the 3rd Stage of Every Apollo mission smashed into the moon with at least as much 'destructive' impact as the LCROSS mission is going to cause.

Maybe the world ended 40 years ago, after Neil Armstrong's initial act of Lunar Date Rape, and we just didn't get the memo?

43. You have absolutely no comprehension what this mission is about nor how science works, do you?
No, didn't think so.

Amazing how people can so easily let their emotions run the day and say fuck all to actual facts, data, and science.

Here are some more awful things that will happen when the probe contacts the moon that you should be ignorantly freaking out about:

1) The temperature in the immediate area WILL RISE IMMEDIATELY!!!! just like when a volcano goes off, it raises the immediate temperature, too!!!!

2) A dust cloud will be created - nuclear missiles and volcanoes ALSO create dust clouds!!!!!!

3) Water will be vaporized! Vaporized!!! Like aliens hit with phasers in Star Trek!! And like what happens to HUMAN SKIN IN NUCLEAR BLASTS!

4) There will be a transfer of energy! The same kind of transfer of energy that happens WHEN ASTEROIDS COLLIDE WITH EARTH!!!!!!!! and like happens EVERY TIME A BRIDGE FALLS DOWN!!!!

5) The dust cloud WILL BE VISIBLE FROM EARTH! Exactly in the same way that when Saddam BURNED THE OIL WELLS after Desert Storm, THE SMOKE COULD BE SEEN FROM SPACE!!!!!!

6) The probe will be thrust in a forward direction, JUST LIKE A MAN'S PENIS IN RAPE!!!!!!!

Anything else I can help you and the science-illiterate hyperventilate in ignorance about?
