Two more die from pig flu in Dallas county, Denton county school shuts down
2 more die of swine flu in Dallas County; Aubrey ISD cancels classes

05:39 PM CDT on Tuesday, October 6, 2009
From Staff Reports
Two more people have died of the swine flu in Dallas County, health officials said today.

The latest victims -- an 11-year-old boy and a 63-year-old woman -- both had underlying medical conditions, according to Dallas County Health and Human Services officials. They both died within the past week.

They are the eighth and ninth confirmed swine flu-related deaths. Health officials declined to provide further details on the victims, citing patient privacy.

On Monday, the county announced that a 25-year-old and a 35-year-old woman had died from the swine flu. They also had underlying medical conditions.

As the death toll from the flu continues to rise, Aubrey ISD in Denton announced that it would close its schools for the remainder of the week due to a high number of absences.

1. I'll buddy this up with yours. Trenton ISD closes schools due to high absences

Maybe this can become an "official" school shutdown thread for our silent flu epidemic.

After absences went above 20 percent, Trenton school district made the decision Monday to close the school and sanitize it for the remainder of the week. Superintendent Jerry Don Cook said the absences were from influenza.

"Last week, we had at least five confirmed cases" of H1N1 (swine flue virus), he said. "As far as I know, everyone's recovered." Absences began spiking Tuesday of last week, he said. "It kept getting worse and not better." Students were already off for half of Thursday and Friday in order to participate in the Fannin County Fair, he said.

NEW BOSTON, TX (KSLA) - Several Texas schools are shutting down this week because of widespread illnesses, and one of them is in the Ark-La-Tex.

Nearly 20% of the 1400 students in the New Boston ISD missed school on Monday.

And according to the New Boston superintendant, the illnesses continued to increase throughout the day, prompting the district to cancel all classes for all grades for the rest of this week.

"We do not have a confirm case of H1H1, but we do have a pretty good case of flu going throughout the district," says Gary Vandeaver, New Boston ISD Superintendent.

"They are telling us its type A, and we also have a stomach virus that is affecting a lot of our students, as well as some type of pneumonia."
