| OFEC: Organization of Food Exporting Countries |
 |
Edited on Tue Oct-06-09 01:21 PM by Boojatta
Why should farmers have to beg for subsidies while governments of oil-rich countries have simply expropriated the work of geologists, prospectors, engineers, infrastructure builders, etc?
OPEC hasn't always existed, and oil isn't the only important commodity in the world. As time goes by, new organizations can be established.

| 1. So you want another cabal that can hold the world hostage? |

The answer is to break up OPEC, not form yet another vehicle of intimidation and pricing power over an important commodity like our food supply.

How? The members of OPEC are sovereign nation-states.

To a country that doesn't need to import food, OFEC wouldn't be of direct concern. Also, exporting food requires transportation, sometimes over long distances, and that creates a carbon footprint. OFEC would create an incentive to reduce that carbon footprint.
There are farmers around the world who grow food that is exported. Why should they rely upon subsidies from governments instead of working together as farmers to increase the income that they receive in the marketplace?
Should trade unions be abolished and replaced with requests for government subsidies to increase worker wages?
