"McDonald's restaurants to open at the Louvre" - noooooooo...
Lovers of France's two great symbols of cultural exception – its haute cuisine and fine art – are aghast at plans to open a McDonald's restaurant and McCafé in the Louvre museum next month.

America's fast food temple is celebrating its 30th anniversary in France with a coup -the opening of its 1,142nd Gallic outlet a few yards from the entrance to the country's Mecca of high art and the world's most visited museum.

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/worldnews/europe/france...

even the expression, "restaurant" does not fit the brand. and the smell, the so unique smell of museums - to enjoy art with a cheesburger smell invading into yur nostrils.

i'm sure in a couple of weeks the employees there will have ketch-up stains on their ties and shirts ;)

This is why we are the most hated people worldwide. I wounldn't be too worried though, French farmers usually burn down Western fast food eateries.

It is bizarre, though.

32. Nonsense
Is the US government forcing France to open a fast food joint by the Louvre? And cheering arson is in unbelievably bad taste. If the French don't want McDonalds, tell their citizens to stop eating the crap. And for Heavens sake, there are much better reasons for the rest of the world to have problems with the US than the fact that their own citizens like to eat crap.

It just seems to me every few years farmers in France protest and vandalize western restaurants. Not saying it is right, just a matter of fact.

Maybe they hope to corral the obese Amercian tourists into that area and make more room for the people who eat real food elsewhere.

When I was in Paris we were in a little cafe and there really were 2 American couples seated together who were loudly demnading iced tea and ketchup and making a fuss when the items were not forthcoming. It was very embarassing to be in the same room with them.

As a previous poster noted, they aren't just for American tourists. I've been throughout Eastern Europe where no Americans typically travel and the Mickey D's are full of natives.

34. I still find that less disturbing than the McDonald's in the basement of the hospital
that houses the Iowa Heart Center. I guess they're keeping themselves employed.

35. What's the big deal?
Europeans like McDs. Everytime I've been to Europe and seen a Mcd's it was always full.

Somehow I doubt the artworks will burst into flames once they start selling french fries.

36. Of course the French didn't have anything to do with it.
They don't have their own minds, or do they? Naw, if they have a single McDonald's in France it's because it was pushed on them. Right?

53. They also praised the service repeatedly
The French don't like rude restaurant staff, either.

Maybe McD's will have a more convenient one.

49. When I was in ParisUpdated at 10:28 PM
not too long ago, I remember passing plenty of McDonald's with most of them packed, and some with lines sticking out of them. And this wasn't on the Champs Elysees or anything.

Plus, I didn't hear a lick of English being spoke. It surprised the hell out of us. Hopefully the novelty or whatever you want to call it will wear off for Parisians.
