Deleted E-Mails Could Prompt Obstruction Of Justice Charges For Rove & Other WH Officials

Deleted e-mails could prompt obstruction of justice charges for Rove, other White House officials

Michael Roston
Published: Monday April 16, 2007

A major government watchdog organization has warned that White House officials, including Karl Rove, could face a number of obstruction of justice charges for the way they used outside e-mail accounts and failed to properly archive e-mails on White House servers.

"Special Counsel Patrick Fitzgerald could decide to reopen the case," said Melanie Sloan, Executive Director of Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington, referring to the probe over who leaked the identity of covert CIA agent Valerie Plame Wilson. "And if it turns out that e-mail was deleted from the RNC server as suggested by the Waxman letter, that could lead to new obstruction of justice charges."

...................

In a Monday afternoon conference call, she also suggested to RAW STORY that the deletion of more than 5 million e-mails from White House servers, a separate matter from the deleted Republican National Committee e-mail archives, could lead to additional obstruction charges in other cases, such as that of convicted Republican lobbyist Jack Abramoff

"If there were subpoenas outstanding, or orders to preserve particular records pursuant to ongoing investigations, like in the Abramoff prosecution, and it turns out records were deleted after some time, that would certainly again lay open obstruction charges," Sloan added.

6. Why is there any question about charging these bastards? It was a
clear violation of law AND it was a totally organized attempt to ensure that any illegal or just plain wrong actions go be undetected.

Just because "Melanie", "Executive Director of Citizens for Blah, Blah" thinks so doesn't make it so.

I'll believe it when I see it.

22. There's Also Beating Down The "Executive Privilidge" Crap
They've really circled the wagons around Turdblossom. The outer wall are having the email vanish...albeit temporarily...but long enough. The next level will be redacted versions, missing pages and the invoking of Executive Privilidge. This takes us to court where this regime will attempt to revoke the Hatch Act and spread EP over the RNC and GWB43 emails as well. This is sure to take months to sort out in court and this regime then hopes it freezes any investigations until the email status is determined.

Keep in mind the principals in this regime have no future plans (or so we are told)...and that they should be gone, including Rove, by 1/20/09. This is unique that there's really no succession here and Rove has no horse in the '08 race at this point. The only thing it appears these crooks want to do is plunder up until the last minute and sneak away.

:hi:

23. You KNOW those servers no longer exist.
They've been destroyed. Bet on it. They figure they can ride out the storm over spoliation of evidence, just don't let the public see what's in those emails NO MATTER WHAT.
