I read between the lines and didn't like the feeling I got, so I went digging for more info and came up with this on a news site:
Update: As of Oct. 2, 2009, Dr. Vicki Wood, the vet, tells 9NEWS NOW the dog has some parasites that are preventing proper weight gain. Wood says the dog is more alert but will need a extra days to recover with the rescue family.
LAWTON, Ok. (WUSA) ---- A dog eats with an amazing appetite after a mother and daughter rescued him. Turns out, "Brindle" ran away ten years ago from Gary Rowley of Fredericksburg, Va.
Amy Rohde tells 9NEWS NOW her eight-year-old Tristan saw Brindle under a bush on Thursday, Sept. 24, 2009.
"I thought that he had died. He was nothing but skin and bones," says Rohde.
She says it took about 20 minutes for the dog to "hobble" to the house. Dr. Vicki Wood of Bark Avenue Pet Clinic saw the malnourished dog the day after he was found.
"I would like to see an additional ten pounds. He has hip bones that stick out," says Wood to 9NEWS NOW.
Wood located the microchip implanted in Brindle. The microchip identified the dog's name and the dog owner, Gary Rowley.
Rohde says she used Facebook to message all of the profiles under the same name, Friday, Sept. 25, 2009.
"I got a hit back about two hours later. We were very skeptical of each other," she says. Later Rowley sent some pictures of Brindle from a decade ago.
A reunion is expected with Rowley after the dog becomes healthy enough for travel.
Rowley could not be reached for comment at time of this article.

If it had been my dog, I would have already been there to pick him up or at least be with him."

Sounds to me like the owner is really not interested in the dog and never was. I think the dog should stay with his new family, at least if they can afford his very healthy appetite.
I think the "owner" is afraid he's going to be stuck w/a bundle of vet bills. He brought up that he not mad at the dog. Why would anyone even have such a thought if they weren't angry with the dog.
Thank goodness for these kind, empathetic people, the Rohdes, in Oklahoma!
