Can We Take a Minute To Thank John McCain For Putting Sarah Palin on the National Stage?
I mean that sincerely.

I realize this is rather apropo of nothing, and that we've largely moved on as a country, but I was reading another thread about how no one wants her on the lecture circuit, and it really struck me: this woman has done more to discredit Republicans than Vitter, Foley, and Craig combined. And she's done it without a sex scandal, or even any ridiculously criminal acts.

She is viewed by almost the entire world as a complete moron, and yet the Republicans don't dare denounce her, because their small and stupid hard-core base absolutely adores her. Republican leaders are completely stuck with her. It is a thing of beauty.

Thank you, Senator McCain. You might actually be the maverick you claim to be. Your introduction of Sarah Palin to the world has done more harm to your own party than any Democrat could possibly inflict. That is TRULY the action of a maverick.

Bless you, sir.

2. But according to the freepers, her book is going to be the best selling book ever in the history
of the universe (not counting the bible, of course).

I'm series.

PS--thanks, John!

3. I blame McCain for not stopping the insanity that Palin provoked. Everyone talked about
how gracious his concession speech was and I thought it was bullshit. He left all of those lies hanging out there that Palin spewed and left us with the mess.

4. wow - you put much more faith in the typical repub voter than I do
you actually think she is viewed as a moron by the repub base because we, and the rest of the world, see her that way?

I think they can be easily swayed to vote for her - once she gets some of her views to stick. If she throws around enough RW issues (same-sex marriage, choice, immigration), she will start to gain some credibility. If Obama does not show clear progress, many in the middle will also be swayed.

She has a year-and-a-half to two years to prepare and get her legs. Once she does, she will get votes. She is starting with a good sized base.

5. She could never withstand the incredible scrutiny if she were to run--
Edited on Thu Oct-01-09 10:29 AM by Mrs. Overall
she has so much shit in her past (and present) that she will be utterly destroyed. She ran from her position as governor because she couldn't take the heat.

The base you speak of might try to run her, but more moderate republicans would never let it happen.

6. No, I Said The Small and Stupid Republican Base LOVES Her.
The Republican leadership knows all too well what a liability she is. They know - as do the Democrats - that neither party can win anything on their base alone. And Palin TURNS OFF those independent voters who may have voted Republican.

I can't tell you how many people I encountered who were on the fence about the general election, and then HAD to vote for Obama once Palin when selected as VP.

The Palin selection was one of the largest political blunders in history.

7. Every Democrat Should Be Shouting..............
.............PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE nominate this twit to be the Republican presidential candidate in 2012!!! You think McCain got slaughtered? This would be an ass-beating that would have even Walter Mondale laughing. I'd bet you a shiny new dime that the only State she wins is Utah (not even her home State would vote for that train wreck).

10. Heck, I'd Even VOTE For Her!
Here in Ohio, you don't have to give your Party affiliation in order to vote in the primaries. I'm about 99% certain that I'm going to march right down to my voting station on Super Tuesday to cast my vote for Sarah Palin, and help insure that Obama doesn't even have to break a sweat to win a second term. The only downside is that I'll then have to live with the shame that I, at one time in my life, actually voted for Sarah Palin. But at least it was for the right reasons (to see her lose).

She has a 1% chance of ever becoming President or V.P. but a 100% chance of making a butt load of money over the next couple years.

I really don't blame her though - She was mindin' her own business grifting Penny ante vacations, per diems and building supplies when that stupid old bastard McCain drove a dump-truck full of money up to her front door.

Edited on Thu Oct-01-09 10:39 AM by Toasterlad
Frankly, it's MUCH better to have her trolling around the country as a private citizen rather than stealing money from the public till as Governor of Alaska. This way, the only people she's robbing are the incredibly stupid people who fall for her bullshit.

Keep on Truckin', Sarah! And PLEASE run in 2012!

11. What scares me is that a lot of us have always thought GW Bush was too
stupid to be elected, but yet he was POTUS for eight years. I'm not saying she can win in 2012, or even 2016?, but if she is even able to move three or four swing states, she could have a chance.

:scared:

Also, sexist as it is, he's a man. Palin has an uphill battle ahead of her just because she's a woman. Throw in stupid, incompetent, and a quitter, too, and it will be hard to get anyone besides the die-hard morans to vote for her.

14. Everyone's also over looking the "Brand Name" factor (which Repubs are big on).
This is why the religious right and the corptocracy are trying desperately to push her NOW, in time for 2012. With a NAME BRAND (which Repubs are big on), you can get away with just about anything, have any sort of past or present you wish, and you'll succeed. With each passing lunacy, tabloid dropping, stupid statement, rewriting of history, etc. from the Alaskan Queen Crab, the corptocracy that funds these losery no-names like Dole, Ford, McCain and Palin begin to regret their choice.

Sarah also has the unfortunate disadvantage of running against the most charismatic, articulate, intelligent and insightful candidate we've seen in years. People will see how successful his administration will be in the beginning stages of Republicrap cleanup. All he needs to do as a basis point is remind the American people just WHERE Sarah Palin's ideology lies - square with the party that got us INTO this giant shitheap mess in the first place. In debates, she'll look like a restaurant quality ignoramus with her folksy quotes masking an unproven and shoddy record that lacks meat.

Republican candidates in one way or another alienate LARGE groups of voters outside their base. We like our candidates Christian, but not whack-a-doo. The public likes populists, not corporate fluffers, which ALL Republican candidates are. The public likes defenders, not warmongers. We're tired of the Bush/Reaganesque type of politician.

Put it this way - Who was the last Republican candidate that won a presidential election WITHOUT a "Bush" or a "Nixon" on the ticket? That would be Herbert Hoover. Granted, FDR had four terms, but still.

15. As I said, she doesn't have a chance to win in 2012. Now 2016, maybe.
She has already shown she can harness the religious right, the gun crowd, and the anti-tax (Paul-bot) racists. As long as they think it will work, she'll use the "3-G's" strategy, AKA the Southern Strategy, and hope to pull a few swing states.

Whether she can overcome the incompetent and quitter label among the swing vote is yet to be seen. But I would see her get a free-pass from the Corporate Media, because she will cater to the Corporatocray in this country.

17. Nobody Will Be Talking About Sarah Palin In 2016.
Not even the most susceptible independents are going to vote for someone who's been out of elected office for nearly 8 years, who never had a real resume to begin with, and who is borderline retarded. Sarah is radioactive crap, but she has a short half-life. She could make a run in 2012, but by 2016, she won't be able to get a booking on Celebrity Apprentice.

he's regretted that fateful choice, and when did the regret hit? Hot on the heels of those first few disastrous interviews? Who knows? Funny stuff though. Love that the crazy old man did that to his own party. :toast:

19. More about $arah's ghostwriter.
These two really deserve each other.

http://progressivealaska.blogspot.com/2009/10/more-on-palins-co-author-white.html

Lynn Vincent, Palin's co-author of the upcoming fictional Palin life story, Going Rogue, has an interesting past as co-author. She appears to have been quite comfortable co-authoring with white supremacist Robert Stacy McCain.

Their most notable book together, Donkey Cons: Sex, Crime and Corruption in the Democratic Party, can be picked up at Amazon.com for 49 cents. The book is so in-you-face false that it is hard to find a serious review. Here an Amazon.com reader/reviewer tries:

First Prize Winner for the most lies in the fewest pages!

They use Southern "Democrats" of times long dead and gone, the fathers of today's Republican Party of Jefferson Davis, to blacken the reputation of today's Liberal Democratic children of Abraham Lincoln.

McCain's links to groups, individuals and web sites that promote white supremacism are manifold:

Robert Stacy McCain writes for VDARE and Takimag, two disgusting, openly racist websites. And he’s a friend of Richard Spencer, a self-avowed white nationalist. McCain is a member of the white supremacist group League of the South, and he’s associated with the deeply racist American renaissance.

Check out any of these groups on the web, Stephen, and see if I’m exaggerating. You might want to start with Google’s cache of the American Renaissance website.

I don’t link directly to them because they’re a hate group.

There’s more information on Robert Stacy McCain here: Defending Dixie.

Here's Vincent's previous collaborator on interracial marriage:

"The media now force interracial images into the public mind and a number of perfectly rational people react to these images with an altogether natural revulsion. The white person who does not mind transacting business with a black bank clerk may yet be averse to accepting the clerk as his sister-in-law, and THIS IS NOT RACISM, no matter what Madison Avenue, Hollywood and Washington tell us."

Yes, you read that right: a "natural revulsion" and "THIS IS NOT RACISM."

Lynn Vincent herself probably feels comfortable with Sarah Palin's creationist views (partial exposure of which earned PA a 2008 award). She has written about the perils of belief in evolution, and has called intelligent design "science."
Vincent and Palin can feel camaraderie on another level too:

Palin has been filmed declaring the Iraq War to be a holy war. She has stated that she wants Alaska Natives relocated to strategic hubs hamlets. Her sole trip to Alaska's Yukon Delta during the winter of 2009 was with proselytizing Cristianist supremacists Jerry Prevo and Franklin Graham. Both have made efforts in the past to suppress, if not eradicate, Alaska Native culture.

Vincent co-authored a book with Christianist zealot, Lt. Gen. William Boykin, called Never Surrender. Here's some classic Boykin:

As many will remember, we couldn't have gotten off to a better start on winning hearts and minds when Lt. Gen. William "Jerry" Boykin, on his speaking tour of churches in 2003, publicly and in uniform proclaimed that the so-called war on terror was really a fight between Satan and Christians.

He made comments like, "We in the Army of God, in the House of God, the Kingdom of God have been raised for such a time as this," saying that George W. Bush, who had ignorantly called the war a crusade, was "in the White House because God put him there," and referring to the capture of Somali warlord Osman Atto, said, "I knew that my God was bigger than his. I knew that my God was a real God, and his was an idol."

Speaking at a Rotary Club meeting in his hometown of Concord, N.C., in December 2006, one of Boykin's supporters, former Rep. Robin Hayes, R-N.C., pronounced that stability in Iraq ultimately depended on "spreading the message of Jesus Christ, the message of peace on earth, good will towards men. ... Everything depends on everyone learning about the birth of the savior."

Palin's fit with Vincent may be a stroke of sick genius. Imagine Vincent tossing Palin's verbal herbage into a lethal concoction, designed to spread more hatred of non-whites, urging people to reject the products of interracial marriage, conjuring up the false spirits of the Old South, touting carrying loaded weapons into public meetings, urging citizens to strike out openly and assertively against census workers - and on and on and........

And a journalistic coup might be had in getting Robert Stacy McCain's views on the Crazy Woman.
