the sad reality: there was never going to be a victory against big pharma, insurance or banks
let's face it, they own everything, they control everything, and they fund everything

let's even be simpler: Corporations trump people's rights, every time.

anyone who thought it would end up differently, at least in a big way, was deluding themselves... and that includes me. I dared to hope.

oh well.

2. yup, I remember.
and I remember the rhetoric against union workers at the auto plants, and how different it was than against the CEOs and bonuses.

5. The President said "Sanctity of Contract" was the reason taxpayers had to pay AIG bonuses
Then he broke the UAW. :wtf:

19. Yet the wingers continue to insist that Obama is beholden to labor unions!
Ah, yes...the magic of bipartisanship!

3. one of the reasons the big corps always win
is that the people are always so quick to give and lack any determination.

they know the right thing to do, they know how hard it is. But there is always some excuse to give up hope..

Ironic that in giving up hope, one is really just ESCAPING THE RESPONSIBILITY AND HARD WORK OF REALIZING THEIR HOPES.

4. The real clincher is that they own the media, and while people think they have the freedom of
their own decisions, they're brainwashed much more thoroughly than they realize.

16. Iowans don't decide which candidates are on the menu to begin with, though
And if there's a potential dark horse in the running, no worries, since M$M, and control of the public mind, will run its course take care of it in the highly unlikely event that such a candidate gains popular momentum.

17. I agree. Iowa is there to prevent the Dennis Kucinichs of the world from gaining any real traction
Don't discount the theater value of allowing the appearance of a broad field. Iowans will winnow it down to the "centrists", and the appearance of broad participation can be maintained.

12. Losing to the corporations was a forgone conclusion. Of course we can't "win" but
the question isn't wether or not we would lose the real question is and has always been by how much and that is still open.

If the president and dems in congress had had the spines to go with out taking the legalized bribes we laughingly refer to as campaign funding for an election cycle or two then we would have lost a lot less.

Oh well. Maybe next time.

13. When you give up on your hope, that's when your faith must take over.
Faith requires no evidence, it just requires fighting until you're dead, if not for you then for your descendants.

Corporations have no more power over the people in regards to determining their government today, than the rich white male founders of the U.S. did when a vast majority of the American People weren't even allowed to vote.

In a nation built on the hybrid concepts of self-interest and perfect union, there will always be tension between those two ideals.

This is how you fight.

14. The corporate takeover of America didn't happen in a year and it's not going to end in one either.
The opportunity to slowing and persistently chip away at this still exists, however...provided we make the first step with a public option.

18. Nope. There are always alternatives.
Chances are high that we will lose, but it's not a no chance situation.
