The reason we all should beware of talking about the "subject du jour".
Today for example was Roman Polanski. The other day was Jan Schakowsky. Another day was Kanye, or Sarah Boyle or John Edwards, etc, etc. ad infinitum.

I am not objecting to the subjects themselves being discussed, but rather to the fact that we are willingly allowing ourselves to be "guided" by whatever the media meme of the day is. We are willingly allowing them to have the power to change the subject to any one that they wish to. We are empowering the media to belittle what is important and create their own agenda.

We MUST exercise the muscles of letting go of what they put in front of us and keeping focus on what WE want to talk about (and please don't bring up 'multi-tasking').

2. It's weird how the 'subject du jour' totally takes over DU for 24 hours: Yale student killed,
Kennedy, Michael Jackson, Kanye West. Not just a few threads about them... but half the threads about them.

3. I agree. I fall victim...but I remember these things used to be in the Lounge
I think you are absolutely correct and I wish I could rec this a million times. I have to play sometimes but I come here to learn something different from what I could learn on the teevee or by looking at USA Today.
