I was victimised: Wolfowitz's companion

The woman at the centre of a scandal that could force the resignation of World Bank President Paul Wolfowitz says she has been victimised and forced to take a transfer she never wanted in the first place.

Shaha Riza said she was surprised when told she had to take an outside assignment because of her relationship with Wolfowitz, according to a recent memo to a committee reviewing her promotion and salary increase, which has caused an uproar at the World Bank.

"I would like to reiterate that I did not wish to leave the bank and I did not, and do not, expect any special considerations," Riza said.

Riza, a former gender specialist and a senior communications officer in the bank's Middle East Department, said she hoped to return to the bank as soon as possible to continue her career from within.

"I did not wish to leave the bank," she said. "I have now been victimised for agreeing to an arrangement that I have objected to and that I did not believe from the outset was in my best interest."

3. Is she really that dense?
She really thinks there's nothing wrong with, nor any connection to having a fling with the boss and oh, by they way, we're uping your salary by thousands of dollars.

8. If she had a clue in her head about gender issues
she would know that when you start banging in the workplace, it's always the woman that gets shown the door. I'll bet she didn't want to leave, but it appears she didn't balk at taking the nice fat payraise for doing nothing.

7. Women who try to shtup their way to the top
NEVER think they're doing anything wrong! They just think they are irresistible. The problems come when the affair cools and they become embarrassments or when, like Riza, the affair becomes well enough known that they need to be sent off to another location to preserve the boss's position.

Nobody buys the story about true love between them because Wolfowitz's revolting personal hygiene habits are well known. The holes in his socks at his appearance at a Mosque leave no doubt that he has improved his personal habits under Riza's tutelage.

10. For a $193,000/year TAXFREE salary, I'd volunteer to be "victimized"!
Is there no limit whatsoever to the sense of entitlement these people have?? Abominable.

12. BS-she's a total war operative as much as Wolfowitz.
Their principles paraphrased: Privatization is on the march. Money trumps peace, sometimes.

Btw, in honor of today I light a virtual symbolic candle of remembrance (I never forgot)

Here it is.

I don't know if it was because of the affair or if the divorce preceded the affair, but he's divorced.

18. Now working (or not working) for bushco money laundering outfit?
Must read diary at kos...seems Ms. Riza now working for a foundation, established by Secretary Rice, called Foundation for the Future....trouble is, no one can find this foundation, no one can explain what it does. Looks like a "foundation" to funnel money to shadowy organizations in the ME. In the diary is a transcript from a State Dept press gaggle. Go read the whole thing, it will make your head explode.
