2. My grandma had Alzheimer's
And it was sad. I wouldn't wish that on anyone nor do I make fun of people who have it.

4. And blaming tea-baggers' intellectual laziness or just plain stupid on Alzheimer's is bad
It lessens the integrity of language to posit that Alzheimer's is at the root of the political dumbing down of millions. Not as heinous as calling everyone you don't like a Nazi, but nasty just the same, as it diminishes the real heart break of the former and horror of the latter.

No, the tea-baggers are not all victims of a horrible degenerative disease. Most have willfully remained just plain ignorant.

Those who have to deal with Alzheimer's up close deserve better than us misusing the condition as an excuse for other things. Deepest sympathy for what you and others have to endure when it hits a family.

3. Is this your idea of a joke?
My 76 year old father has mild Alzheimer's and on some days, does not entirely recognize me. And though he is a Foxaholic, and a racist, I love him, and miss the man whom he used to be.

There is no emoticon for that....

7. I "miss the man whom he used to be." Until recently I was going
through the same thing, and I know exactly what you are experiencing. It's heartbreaking, and you have my empathy.

Mercifully, my 86-year-old father is no longer suffering the ravages of dementia. His heart gave out, but his mind went first. It's a terrible, terrible disease.

5. Interesting statistic, but not applicable to the tea-baggers

or not to most of them. There might be a few with the serious and tragic condition, but don't let the rest off with an easy excuse.

One hopes you never have to really learn, up close & personal, the difference between Alzheimer's and the basic willful ignorance of the tea-baggers.

edited for need of coffee this morning

6. I'm going to assume you've never cared for a loved one with
dementia. I know your post was intended to be humorous, and I know the teabag fringe are somewhat unhinged, but dementia really isn't a laughing matter. Ask anyone who is coping with a family member in the grip of it.
