Mr. Trudeau. You do kick some ass, lately. :7

1. Trudeau just put "family values" in capital letters
I'll see your tryst and raise you one messy divorce.

12. Exactly
This is what I've been saying since the whole Newt Gingrich hypocrisy came out.
(Oops! Not hypocrisy because he's cleared his infidelity with God...)

Republicans line themselves up on the "family values" thing.
They witch-hunted Clinton because of an affair.
And yet look at who is still married...

And before you say it, yes, I realize that some think the Clintons have remained married for reasons other than love. And to that I say, people have remained married for stranger things... Regardless, only the Democratic candidates have shown commitment to their marriages - who is displaying "family values" better?

2. Gladly kicked
and just as glady recommended! Mr. Trudeau says so easily and pointedly in eight panels what the rest of us can't express in eight pages. And he's got such a nice, big platform to say it from.

4. Excellent, except there is one mistake...It states that among the Dem candidates there were no
Divorces or infidelities.....Not completely accurate....No divorces, no infidelities by the candidates, but we know that one candidate, Clinton did have to deal with a very public infidelity...but, never divorced....

Very interesting to see the contrast between the two sides, isn't it?

Thanks for posting all the Doonesbury this week, Hissyspit! :hi:

5. I wondered, too. But then I concluded he meant: HILLARY didn't commit adultery.
Edited on Sun Apr-15-07 02:51 AM by WinkyDink
As opposed to the male Republican candidates themselves (if SPOUSES were included, more divorces would have been mentioned, e.g., as Judith Giuliani has had two).

Doonesbury was being a bit Jesuitical. ;)

15. That's what I wondered then quickly realized.
its the spouse, not the candidate, so it doesn't count. Even if it did, that's one case on the Dem side. Just one.

17. If anything, her work to keep her marriage together
after that would seem to count in her favor according to this Family Values POV.

9. Somehow....
I don't believe the right will be pushing the "family values" issue too much this go-around. Call it a hunch. ;) Oh, they'll continue their crusade against gays and abortion and all, but as far as "nuclear families" and such, they'll be relatively silent.

There will be plenty of good old red, white, and blue patriotism thrown around though and of course, terra' terra' terra'! There's not much else they can run on I'm afraid. The national idiot has closed just about every other door the right usually uses to spur their base onward. The economy, national debt, expanding government bureaucracy, taxes......Bush has pretty well slammed the door shut on those by his mismanagement.

So I expect a red, white and blue terror filled Republican campaign with a smattering of gays, guns and god, but nowhere near the hysterical levels of the past. They're treading on thin ice in that respect, none of their candidates can keep it in their pants.

11. There needs to be a reality TV show with 3 married couples: 1 straight , 1 gay male, 1 gay female.
They all live in a house together, trying to live their lives, saving money, working hard on their careers, etc.

The point of the show would be that all 3 married couples can live together, have conflict, yet REMAINED married. It would prove to the dumb part of America that gay marriages don't break up straight marriages. Not that dumb America would watch it.

18. Actually, they would probably ALL break up.
Putting your relationship on television for all to see doesn't have a good track record as far as couples staying together.

And on that note, check out this great video of Roy Zimmerman regarding gay marriage and the hypocrisy of republican family values: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bja2ttzGOFM
